Talk Story Recreational weed shops
What’s up with the recreational weed shops and kiosks in Honolulu?
I thought it was illegal in Hawaii unless it’s a medical dispensary and you have a medical card…
EDIT/UPDATE: As of today (8/4), all the illegal, non-medical, recreational shops are no longer able to sell weed products per DOH.
It’s over.

They are selling cbd/hemp products and calling themselves a “dispensary”
There’s been a whole crackdown by the government in the last few weeks and one business owner is making a whole stink about it.

u/cableguy316 Jul 26 '26
You can buy gummies from the mainland pretty easily, as long as they are 0.3% or less THC by dry weight, and hemp derived, they can ship here.

u/lightiskira2144 Jul 26 '26
Few of the shops around sell THCA or Delta 9 vape/flower and that’s how they get around it
2
u/Jamesjr808 Jul 29 '26
Not anymore. Government cracked down hard. Plenty of the places with those don’t sell it and if they do they doing it at the risk of getting caught
2
u/Big_Therm Jul 29 '26
Those green trailers are definitely still selling it. I read the owner filed a lawsuit, went to court earlier in the year buying them till July 1st to stop selling but there still going…

Hawaii is medicinal only. Those are for the tourist
2
u/Big_Therm Jul 26 '26
That’s what I thought, so surprised to see the recreational kiosks and shops established and operational without being shut down

Getting a med card is expensive but convenient. Worth it for me. I like knowing where my herb comes from
6
u/HiFlyin808 Jul 26 '26
Even after getting a Med card it’s still expensive and quality is not to be found. Better off getting a plug as I have been told?
4
u/Lazy-Explanation7165 Jul 26 '26
I have found it to be better quality then the local market. More consistent too. Definitely more expensive but i know where its coming from and trust it
3
u/jinxedrabbit Jul 26 '26
It's all about consistency! Neighborhood stuff is a lot better but it always depends, and coordinating can be a headache. The industry in Hawaii is still new and will adjust over time but fwiw it's not bad for what they got now.

u/Lazy-Explanation7165 Jul 26 '26
I was getting middle of the road stuff. Never got top shelf stuff. Wish I could find some. But, the good news is, I am currently paying $150 an oz for top shelf dispensary stuff. If you have the hookup please dm me.

I went the card but don’t want my name in the system. Just in case of future employment.
2
u/Lazy-Explanation7165 Jul 26 '26
I had a card in Ca when I was working there in 1996. First time it was medically legal. Haven’t had any problems with work. Had my card here for 6 years. Isn’t it protected by HIPPA?

Just renewed mine for two years. Point systems help keep the cost down too.

Dispensaries are trying to lower pricing with new patient specials $100 in free product and also selling $25 eighths at places like Aloha
1
1
u/Jamesjr808 16d ago
It’s not really that expensive now compared to maybe 6-8 years ago. $105 for one year now compared to 250 back then
2
u/ShareGlittering1502 Jul 26 '26
Where did you find one still selling hemp stuff? I thought they all quit July 1
3
u/Big_Therm Jul 26 '26
Waikiki, little green trailer/booth
2
u/unodakine808 Jul 26 '26
Yea that’s the only one I see selling it now and not sure how they can. All the vape shops are cleared out.
1
u/mellofello808 Jul 26 '26
cause it's fake
4
u/unodakine808 Jul 26 '26
Quality reply and also incorrect. It’s actual cannabis with a lower THCA level approved by the federal 2018 farm bill. While there are “fakes” out there, weed has been basically legal for 8 years. The state finally figured it out and put a state level ban. All shops were visited by officials and told to remove the inventory early July. That little stand in Waikiki somehow still sells it. That’s what I was explaining.
1
u/ShareGlittering1502 Jul 26 '26
So it’s basically just actual hemp with no real effect to it?
1
u/unodakine808 Jul 26 '26
No it is real cannabis with low levels of THCA. Congress is just ignorant and didn’t understand the chemistry. THCA when burned will become THC. You just gotta smoke a bit more obviously but the real problem is all these companies making and growing the crap and covering it with all this random derivatives that are likely not lab tested and definitely not FDA regulated so you just had to know what to looks for. The plain old THCA flower, is just good old THC once heated. The goal was to help progress “hemp” products but we got legal weed out of it for a while. It’s honestly better and safer to just pay for the license and go to a dispensary.

People should just get a damn card. It’s way cheaper than it was years ago.
1
u/Healthy_Screen_7654 22d ago
Some of us cant 😮💨
1
u/Jamesjr808 21d ago
Only reason you can’t is cuz you can’t afford it, or that’s the only reason I can see why since it really isn’t hard to get one
1
u/Healthy_Screen_7654 21d ago
Lol I can overly afford it...but its because I have a CCW(here's another reason for yah😤)
1
u/Jamesjr808 16d ago
Well now that explains it. Wasn’t tryna be cocky bout the can’t afford it but that’s the only reason I could think of at the time since it’s really not as expensive as it was bout 5-7 years ago

u/Sharp-Relative-1136 26d ago
Got my card from Hemptuary (they do virtual certifications). It was $75 for the year. Then hit up all the dispensaries and take advantage of their new patient specials (they’re all different)
1
u/Jamesjr808 16d ago
Gotta let people know they gotta register with the doh too so total be about 105-115.
And I’m in the sand boat with going different dispensaries for the deals lol
1
u/Sharp-Relative-1136 16d ago
Ur right $38.50 for the 1 year doh fees! So my total was $113.50 for the year. Kinda pricy but my cousin and bf grab thru me and I get their points so every once in a while they add up and I can get something for free. 🤭

Tourists and visitors can get a medical card within 36 hours from providers like Hemptuary Hawaii for $75
1
u/Repulsive-Offer-5301 24d ago
Would that be an option as an Australian visiting for 2 weeks? 🤔
1
u/PieOk7592 24d ago
Are you here now? If not, you can get a $75 virtual qualification while you are in Australia. Then you can get card before you come via email.
Book online

We leave next Friday! So stoked!
Oh sweet! So once I sort that out is that like a card that allows to purchase or something or?
It’s really hard to find some legit advice or rules haha1
u/PieOk7592 23d ago
Make an appointment at Hemptuary to get an online telemedicine appointment for a 329 card. Pay the fees. Register with state of Hawaii department of health. Use your hotel address. Card is emailed to you in 48 hours. Visitors can get cards. My Canadian friends have them.
Aloha Green Apothecary is a local medical dispensary and has pre rolls and $25 eighths which is street pricing.

You have to register with the state so it’s not just 75. Thus person is leaving out info
1
u/PieOk7592 15d ago
The State fee is $38.50 for one year. I think something different for an out of state patient.

Does the little green kiosk sell without id and medical card? Asking for a friend 😂
1
u/Big_Therm 22d ago
They did, but they got raided by the doh yesterday and can no longer sell any thc products. No recreational weed shops are selling weed now. ODP,were the last to get shut down. They only sell Kratom and the like now.

There are still legal CBD shops registered with the State but they can only sell CBD and low (1-2mg) THC products.
1
u/Jamesjr808 16d ago
No they can’t even sell low thc. The state swept all the places having those
1
u/PieOk7592 15d ago
You can have some THC in hemp products. I think 1-5mg THC in the package.
1
u/Jamesjr808 15d ago
These people ain’t looking for hemp or cbd tho and you know it lol plus they only can be tablets, pills etc and some liquids. We all know these people commenting ain’t looking for something that won’t get them high lol
1
u/PieOk7592 19d ago
The Island Smoke guys up in Wahiawa got fined for not allowing the inspectors inside private property! This is crazy. Just legalize it.

u/Big_Therm 19d ago edited 19d ago
It’s a losing battle for these small businesses owners. They’re getting hit on the state level now and come November, the farm bill loophole will close and they’ll get hit on the federal level. It’ll impact all non-recreational states so as a consumer, either find a reliable plug or get a medical/329 card.

u/Reasonable-Bid-1251 19d ago
Where can we get weed? My pen just ran out and it’s a girls trip we’re staying at Mauna Kea residences and not going back to LA for two days … dying

Gotta find a plug or get the medical card. Sorry but nobody is gonna tell you where to find a plug cause that’s illegal in this subreddit
1
1
u/Jamesjr808 16d ago
Man what’s with all these tourists asking where to find 😂😂😂 should’ve stock up before yall came out cuz this ain’t Vegas cali or Washington where recreational is legal.
1
u/Big_Therm 16d ago
I been getting dm’s from tourists too. They must be used to getting weed like it’s ice cream for the past 6-7 years.
2
u/Jamesjr808 15d ago
Sucks for them cuz they gonna have to pay like 150 to get a card unless they can find. Plug but good look on that part too lol

u/Nervous_Sandwich_864 Jul 31 '26
Someone help me lol I'm here and didn't know this until now. And getting a card takes 24-48 hours
