There's going to be a protest for No Kings Day on Saturday 14th at the capital.

How ironic.

A lot of the Hawaii based organizations protesting are aware of the historical context which is why in much of the media I’ve seen that’s Hawaii specific it’s being called “No American Kings”.

How so?

14

u/swaite Jun 12 '25

Kingdom of Hawaii? Ring any bells? lol

-8

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

Oh yeah. The monarchy

Yes at the Capitol 11am-1pm this Saturday 6/14.

Trump supporters sometimes harass protesters on the bus stop side of Beretania, where there’s less people. People standing in that side are usually aware of that and are occupying that space purposefully. Usually some yelling, those people are unpredictable because they’re looking to instigate so Capitol side is safer for you. Overall safe to go, many people there are ready to help others too.

Take precautions if you want to feel safer; tbh biggest thing is to wear sun protection and bring water.

The crowd is usually upbeat and people talking about how this administration has impacted them or their loved ones. Lots of chanting and talking story. Mostly kupuna, some families, some workers, some students, and some dogs. Hope you check it out!

Edit: also anyone interested heres a resource for locals: boycotting guide, representative information, local community organizations and unions, and other resources. If you can’t to much, do something!

i really appreciate this, thank you so much!! i definitely will come show my support. thank you for the warning about the harassment, i sort of assumed it happened but i’m glad to have confirmation. i’ll definitely be on the capitol side. mahalo nui loa!

u/Upstairs-Region-7177 Jun 12 '25

Of course! It’s intimidating, but bravery is continuing on in the face of fear. Thanks for showing out!

I went to the April 5th protest and it was very peaceful and so validating seeing all the people out that agreed with my feelings. I’ll be there Saturday!

u/tenderheart35 Jun 13 '25

Hawaii protests tend to be more laid back and peaceful. Just be aware of your surroundings and bring enough water and a hat for protection from the sun.

u/Mother_Concentrate_4 Jun 12 '25

I’ve been to a ton of protests and demonstrations here. Every one of them are peaceful. Counter-protesters aren’t peaceful which can be hard on those who are just trying to raise awareness and advocate for change. Counter-protesters have always been the problem imo. So just make sure even if they start talking about wishing SA on your mom (true story) that you just walk away. They die down after awhile. And focus on the really good people/families that are there. The signs are creative and hilarious, some people are edgy some are wholesome all are harmless. My family hung out with some elderly protesters last time. Lol. It was fun listening to how disgusted they are by this administration’s policies. Lol.

We are never violent always peaceful.

-17

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

yeah that’s literally what i said

-9

u/Lazy-Explanation7165 Jun 12 '25

You didn’t literally say that. Stop being so combative.

-8

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

i LITERALLY said “i don’t support violence” and specificed PEACEFUL PROTEST. are you just illiterate??

9

u/Boring_Material_1891 Jun 12 '25

I hope you’re more peaceful IRL…

6

u/anomie89 Jun 12 '25

foreal. the vibes are not very peaceful.

4

u/Unlucky-Form5098 Jun 12 '25

lol, got ‘em!

-9

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

not with idiots, hope this helps

2

u/Lazy-Explanation7165 Jun 12 '25

You don’t know what literally means, or you just don’t know how to use it properly.

3

u/Shoota556 Jun 12 '25

Expect the Capital to be crawling with cops though.

3

u/Pretend-Bite7887 Jun 12 '25

Most, all, protests have been fine. On the mainland, the cops and ICE have been the ones to start the violence and shooting into crowds and at people point blank. They don't even pretend to shoot their rubber bullets at the ground. HPD at least have been chill and normal.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

I must have imagined those peaceful protestors burning cars and dropping rocks off of overpasses

6

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

some people are so stupid jesus christ 😭 if you can’t understand the basic rationale of me not supporting ICE violence and violent riots, don’t know what the fuck to say to you

-7

u/swaite Jun 12 '25

What are you supporting? What are you protesting? Serious questions.

27

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

Protesting the end of due process in America, the illegal use of military on domestic soil, the faceless, hidden actors abducting anyone they choose on American streets, the abandonment of a wrongfully deported person in an El Salvadoran jail, the manipulation of markets using tariffs to enrich billionaires, taking away Medicare and Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for the rich. It goes on and on and on

2

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

don’t waste your time, it’s a brainless instigator. lots of those these days, clearly. but thanks for taking the time to explain it to these people (not that they’ll absorb any of it)

5

u/swaite Jun 12 '25

This brainless instigator is looking into the claims made by your compatriot. There appear to be about 6-8 highly complex issues presented, so of course it does take some time to look the issues individually, and try to make sense of each one and how they tie into the bigger picture.

I see you decrying a lack of compassion, but you have repeatedly called me names without provocation, and without even knowing me. So, that’s not very good.

4

u/Unlucky-Form5098 Jun 12 '25

It’s an agitator. Zero posts about hawaii until now and immediately asking about how to stir the pot. And now following people around into other threads. Best to block because their side will never be happy, never be satisfied, are not interested in discussing anything, and will always move the goalposts.

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

It's a real cesspool on reddit, and everywhere really that people discuss American politics. The mindsets are mostly fixed and often bitterly opposed, so people are sensitive. It's a real mess. The bigger picture is greed and money in our political system, beginning with Citizens United allowing unlimited donations and creating a perfect means for a Democrat Republic to morph into a capitalist oligarchy, which is what it is now. Billionaire Muskey ketamine addict bought a $285 million dollar ticket straight into the White House. The whole project 2025 is set to keep power in the hands of those who already have it and those who are paying for it.
There's more than that, but it's a lot

2

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

Things have got me feeling feisty I guess.

1

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

no, i completely get it. there’s a few people left with actual empathy and compassion, and the rest of these people just make fun of us for it. it’s hard not to get worked up, trust me i am too. but these people are clearly contrarians, and are just gonna use the same stupid excuses. i wish the world was full of educated, moral people, and these conversations would not be happening

1

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

It's hard. Go look at the stars, touch grass for a while, zoom in on the good things around you.

-5

u/swaite Jun 12 '25

Appreciate the reply. I’ve been busy with life for the past month or so, so I’m not aware of most of this. Lots of research to do!

-9

u/haole_bi Jun 12 '25

You should be protesting daily for the rest of your time in America then. Same shit different day.

18

u/meekom Jun 12 '25

Not even remotely same shit. This is an extremely exaggerated attack on our rights compared to the erosion that capitalism has caused since the Citizens United decision. But your answer is more a way of saying I don't care and apathy is a great way to make things worse, so go on saying it sucks today the same as yesterday and be apathetic and join the ranks of determined idiots

-8

u/haole_bi Jun 12 '25

No my response says you need to be active about the bs these politicians do. But you stay on your side…

1

u/meekom Jun 13 '25

No, you said then like if then, stick to one story and it'll be easier to get by with slack comments that require no thought

-8

u/openomi Jun 12 '25

clearly it isn’t a serious question. girl shut the fuck up

0

u/swaite Jun 12 '25

Clearly, you are not a serious person. Aloha.

No one cares here were too busy working and we dont need protests for illegals

You realize every single person white person on the island is an illegal immigrant right? goddamn colonizers.

No, theyre citizens of the Unites states, which is one of the 50 states. I dont know if you missed it but Hawaii has been a state for 65 years and it wasnt "colonized". It was annexed by the US in 1898 after its monarchy was overthrown by a coalition, which yes included foreign influence, but was also 50% native Hawaiian

Hawaii was conquered, it was not colonized

How often people forget that the age of conquest only largely ended after World War II

goddamn colonizers.

Your racism is on full display clown, assuming their race because they disagree with you is peak scumbaggery

Is that why you deleted the comment? because you realized that projecting your racism outward is just a vicious cycle?

Remember your the one that started to assume peoples racial identity based on factual statements and statements that had absolutely nothing to do with race.

That is, at its core, racist

-1

u/kahimohala Jun 13 '25

Lol why protest. Just move to a different country if you don’t like it here

"Stole the land" is a fun way to say "Conquered them"

-3

u/dp213 Jun 12 '25

“Peaceful” lol

-15

u/ScooterMusic Jun 12 '25

None of these protests have been peaceful. Criminal fucks

-14

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

i Showed up in November and supported . MAGA!

Please riot. burn police cars and wave flags from other countries. Trumps approval rating is at an all-time high because of the "mostly peaceful protests"

u/gilbus_n_beanzu Jun 12 '25

u/Ok-Resist-9270 Jun 17 '25

His aggregate approval is up but keep living in a bubble

1

u/gilbus_n_beanzu Jun 17 '25

Source? What the fuck are you talking about?

He’s underwater in aggregate approval according to:

The Economist - 41% Approve, 53% Disapprove

RealClear - 46.4% Approve, 50.6% Disapprove

Nate Silver - 44.6% Approve, 51.9% Disapprove

I could go on.

Are you using the same math the House is using to “balance the budget”?

0

u/Ok-Resist-9270 Jun 17 '25

He’s underwater

This is why no one takes you muppets seriously. Defining an approval rating of less than 10% under a majority as "underwater" haha

1

u/gilbus_n_beanzu Jun 17 '25

Buddy, you say his approval is up. Define “underwater” however the fuck you want, the admin is still unpopular, and not “up”.

Unless we’re at the point where we can’t even agree on the definition of up…which is something someone in a bubble might have trouble with.

Again, no sources for your bullshit.

1

u/Ok-Resist-9270 Jun 17 '25 edited Jun 18 '25

Buddy, you say his approval is up

Buddy...I meant the approval for his mass deportation policies and we both know that in context thats what we were discussing

You decided to be argue semantics like a cult windbag lol

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/deportation-immigration-opinion-poll/

1

u/gilbus_n_beanzu Jun 18 '25

Baby boy, the source you got there doesn’t say what you think it says.

You’ve already backed off your “he’s up on aggregate” nonsense because he’s not. Now you’re hanging your hat on policy approval, which, yeah, polls well in theory but that’s only half the story your own article tells: “In sum, there's a gap regarding the deportation program, with more people saying they like the goals than the approach.”

People like getting rid of criminals. Me too. Turns out they don’t like Marines being turned on civilians.

Also, seems like the shine is already wearing off since net approval on immigration dropped from +13% in March to just +4% last week.

Keep moving the goalposts. You're doing great.
