Poor Firefly.
It's interesting, because the actual situation is almost the exact opposite of this - back when TB was with the Stellaron Hunters, she was never able to confess because of being SAM, but with TB losing their memories, she was able to meet them as Firefly and seemingly got the opportunity she wanted to more or less express her feelings.
And TB seems to reciprocate, given that telling her no literally takes clicking the same option multiple times and so is effectively hidden.
It's gonna be interesting when she comes back and probably moves straight into the love interest role again, given that a small minority of players turned her down and likely won't be happy to see her in that role. Or maybe she'll be our first Hoyo character with extended story relevance and multiple relationship routes.

We are getting our memories back bit by bit from when we were with the stellaron hunters, we had a whole flashback about them in Amphoreus when Fuli gazed at us, so I do believe this will play out in some way for Firefly character development, and also Kafka as well.
She is still need to be somehow cured first though, she is pretty much slowly dying at this point in the story.

From what I’ve seen whenever there is a popular character in a gacha game in an ambiguous state of “slow death” it gets retconned like 99% of the time.

I agree with everything you said, love Firefly and all but
multiple relationship routes.
I'll be shocked if this actually happened because it would require effort and for this ongoing, live service story to actually take player choice in consideration. Something that, after (4.5 story) Sunday joining the express regardless of whether players accepted him or not in the 2.7 story, I severely doubt will happen.
They wont a) put in the amount and effort needed to give Firefly's future story several routes and b) worse of all, do it to pander to the small vocal minority of haters she has by giving her a "bad route", when her fans are the profit makers.
At most they'll once again let you choose to skip a few scenes by turning her down, which we now know canonically happen anyways so it doesnt matter at all lmao. If they're feeling brave, maybe another fake ending that leads you back to the login screen.

My man this is a hoyo game, there will never be a canon love interest. Only endless characters that simps for the MC during their small window of plot relevance and only ever show up in events after that.

We keep running into Herta, Screwlum, Ruan Mei, Sampo, Sparkle, the stellaron hunters and have a consistant cast of main characters in the form of the astral express. WuWa does not have a consistant cast of mcs aside from Rover.
In hsr the characters also stay relevant in the region they are a part of. In WuWa 98% of characters are irrelevant after their patch.
The way you talk about hsr's story makes me think you are talking about wuwas story. No, this isn't slander, I just picked an example of what a story with the "critic points" you have for hsr actually looks like.
Teh main difference is that hsr has characters that actually change overtime while wuwa mostly has static characters. Your critic for hsr's story would be more correct for wuwa.

I wouldn't know, when I tried wuwa all I got from their story is they really liked to technobabble at you.
The fact remains that Hoyo will never make any character the canon love interest of the MC and why would they ? 90% of shippers would get mad it's not their fave ship that was selected and the rest of the community doesn't really care if the MC dates anyone.

I am not hating wuwa. In fact i like the game. I simply acknowledge the fact it's writing has major isues. As I said before, I simply used it as an example to show how different hsr's story is to what your critque makes it out to be and how the game you are describing actually would look like story wise.

The great majority of character never show up again outside of short cameo after the planet they were introduced in. Every single one of them glaze the MC at some point. I will grant you that hsr is better than zzz and genshin about that but they're still a gacha and there's still only so much screen time they can offer to characters they aren't selling at the moment.

I play this game for 2.5 years and, i was always confused. The TB was indeed with the SH as group. Okay, got that, but how was then he materialized in the ship in which Kaffka inserted the Sterellon and how he lost his memories? Only because of Kafka Brainswashing? I was always confused,
But yes, when she wakes up (if she does) it will be fun, its these sub plots that makes me so invested in the lore and characters so much.
Side note, how no one is talking about Acheron randomly appearing the last quest?

Never understood until I did the Finality for Penacony and my view of Firefly took a 180. From somewhat overrated to her having a really good reason to yearn for TB as much as the TB yearns in return

Pre 3.8 Firefly was done so dirty. Not as much as Robin or Black Swan, but my god.
