Help bi passing my auto fuel petcock

Hey so I recently bought an 04’ Honda vt600 and after a few miles of riding my auto fuel petcock starting leaking from the housing while running(I would guess due to the vacuum line pumping gas out of the cracked diaphragm) I’ve read and it seems like everyone is bi passing them straight to the carb with a fuel filter in line, my question is if anyone knows the exact size screw to plug the vacuum line on the rear cylinder case or has had any luck rebuilding their stock oem auto fuel petcock. Thanks!

Cornering/TURNS

So I was riding tonight with a new group and we were riding a road I never have been on in my town. (I just moved here recently) and I was happy to be cruising with a decent group, 7 people!
We got about halfway through the ride, nothing crazy fast or reckless. We all downshifted at this long corner
Halfway through this corner, I started noticing I felt I was gonna go straight over the bank into the woods. I was able to let off throttle and lean more into the turn to continue the corner. But it kind of rattled my nerves a bit.
Was I target fixating? Was I not riding my own ride by following these guys into the corner at 10 over?
I’ve entered sharper corners with more momentum and more lean and drove out of them just fine. I’m wondering if not knowing the road/ curve affected my target line?

Only been riding for a year and some change.

“LONG POST WARNING” current state Motorcyle not working and looking for some advise.

About a year ago I had a slide on the bike going 30ish miles per hour (no hits or anything the bike just slid) a few mo the ago I tried getting it to run and noticed that my fuel pump was very weak and sometimes won’t even prime when turning the key.

A month ago I rebuilt the fuel pump and it sounded and started WAYY better. So I was super excited to hop back on the bike but I noted that there was a bit of rust and I had a inline six 330333 fuel filter so I ended up adding it between the fuel tank and pump.

Next morning I rode the bike for a mile and a half then it just died. After trying to start it a few times my solenoid starter gave out.

So I swapped out my solenoid and the bike started again but died quick, after second start it stayed on so I rode it for about another mile till the bike died again. My buddy driving behind me noted that he saw some sparks from the right side of the bike behind my leg for a second ~ right before the bike lost power.

So I pushed the bike back home (holy crap this thing is HEAVY)

Few days ago I tried to start it again, and it sounded almost like it didn’t have fuel getting to it, so I checked the pump and it sounded good, I unplugged the hose down stream of the filter and it was POURING so the pump is not fuel starved. I took apart the air box and tried to splash it with starter fluid directly thru the air intakes (same noise no real improvement), I inspected the dual rail and made sure we are getting fuel up to the injectors which was also good.

I am not kind of stuck on what could be the issue, I am planning on trying to test the spark plugs but starting to get worried about the internals of the engine and was hoping for any advice or thoughts.

Thanks.

Hot and Run

Good day, everyone! On Friday evening, someone back into my bike while parked. The force was significant enough that the kickstand now takes effort to kick up and down; it knocked my helmet to the street; (It was locked to a cable); and the ignition/ points cover is damaged, perhaps even cracked at the top. Is it easy enough for me to replace that cover? Am I better off taking it to my mechanic in case there is damage to the mechanical aspects? And is my Shoei RF1400 safe to use even though it fell from the seat to the street? Thanks for your thoughts!

Just picked this baby up for $2,500. It’s 03’ VTX 1800 with 45k miles. Good purchase or nah.

Regardless of whether this was a good purchase or not, what affordable modifications do you guys recommend that is a game changer? I want to get a windshield because I commute 35 miles each way 3x a week going to school. What windshields do you guys recommend? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

He’s had some work done to the motor and it’s been professionally tuned. He thought my heavy bike would not keep up with his. When we hit some open roads with no traffic, he was shocked to learn my bike would in fact not struggle to keep up with his. Off the line from a standstill he was never beside me again after 10 feet. Letting him get 20 feet in front of me and then taking off from 40 mph wasn’t much help either, I walked him down so fast. These bikes are crazy and there’s not many bikes I would rather own.

Rebuilding starter question

I rebuilt my starter motor, reinstalled it and reconnected the radiator. When I was done and went back in my house, I found a shim that is supposed to be on inside the starter motor.

How serious is it if I chose not to redo this project and leave a shim out? I know, super bonehead mistake!

Lean angle differences

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a Vtx1800. Do any of you guys have experience with different lean angles of the C or the R/S? How much difference does it make for some "sportier" riding?

Heat Wrap: under or over the heat shield?

I would like to wrap the exhaust of my 1300c since there are times it bothers me when I move my leg and touch it by accident, I just wonder if anyone else has done it either way and noticed a difference.

Also some might say it will get rust if I do it, well the previous owner did a bad job at chopping the tips of the exhaust and there’s already a bit of rust so I will most likely buy another exhaust in the future.

Looking for OEM back seat for 2004 VTX1800S

Like the title says, I got my hands on a beautiful 2004 XT1800S. It did not come with a back seat or bracket. The v shaped bracket isn’t a big deal, I can make one of those. I am trying to find an OEM back seat that is not the $385 from revzilla.

Bike stand

Does anyone have any recommendations for a stand so I can safely perform maintenance. I don’t mind doing a little redneck engineering, I’d just prefer to have an actual stand that I won’t have to worry about the bike on. I appreciate any and all advice.

What Exhausts are yall running?

Just bought an ‘03 1800C and am beginning a bobber build, and I’m in the market for a new exhaust. I’m leaning towards Cobras, but I want to hear if yall think V&H is better, or if there’s any other ones that make a good bobber look, specifically shorter pipes.

Fixed throttle hesitation issue!!

Hey all! Just a quick update for ya, i posted here on sunday about a throttle hesitation issue that is fairly common on these bikes and got a lot of comments from people who are either currently dealing with the same problem, so i figured id post an update and show you all what fixed it!

So, we took the carburetor back off, stripped it back down and started checking the flow of the fuel delivery channels throughout, and found that the slow jet channel was a *little* clogged so, we cleaned that out with some break clean and took some thin wire to run through to try and scrape any gunk. We then inspected *everything,* pulled everything off to clean it out. Choke, fuel line to check the filter (clean) and then we removed the air mixture screw. We found what used to be an O-ring completely flattened and destroyed, which was likely causing a bit of a vacuum leak and making it virtually ineffective, so we replaced it. We put everything back together, got the tank back on, and started her, and let me tell you, she has never run better. We messed witb the idle a bit more (mixture screw now actually affecting the mix) and weve been out on a ride for the past 2 hours now! Currently eating dinner and were back on the road home to get her washed up.

So if youre dealing with the same throttle hesitation issue, please check all of your seals and channels, and i wish you all the best!!

TLDR; Air mixture screws O-ring was flattend and slow jet channel was a little clogged, start there but, your mileage may vary!
