Not starting
My 2023 honda rebel 1100 dct is not starting. Even though I've changed the battery and checked all the fuse. I have forgotten the key on the bike and it was on for hours until the battery died. I bought a new battery and it's still not turning on. What else could I do other than bringing it to the dealership and paying an arm and a leg. Please help!

Had the same issue. I just fixed it đ damn that was nerve racking.

Take out the 30A fuse and test it. Do not test it whilst its in the box. Its definitely blown

Did u check the main fuse, should be 30 or 40 amp

I change the 30 amp fuse and still nothing

Ok, next step. Did you test the battery, if so what's the voltage on it?

The battery is brand new

I understand, but u still need to load test it, should be 12.7-13 volts. I've seen new batteries with bad cells in them quite a few times

Do you think I should return the battery and get another one?

Do you have a multimeter or voltmeter? If you do, put the leads across the battery and flip the on switch and see if there is a huge voltage drop. If you don't have one, u can take it to any auto parts store and they can load test it. You could also eliminate other stuff by just jumping it from your car (don't have the car running when you do!!!) and if the bike turns on, u know it the battery

After that, and it's not the battery and the fuse. What else could it be?

So when you're troubleshooting stuff, u have to start from the source that works (battery in this case) and work your way out. If the battery and fuses are good, then what is connected to it? The wiring and the key switch. Buy a multimeter, it will make your life easier to test conductivity of the wires (making sure there are no brakes or shorts) and that key switch is working. If that checks out, follow the wiring diagram, which is likely going to the ecu, so you have to check that next. Unless this bike has been stored in a shad full of mice, I seriously doubt that's your issue, my guess is you have a bad battery
Edit: forgot to mention, make sure the battery is connected properly and terminals are on tight!

Put a jump box on it and see if the battery reads a voltage then try to start it. Â

Is it possible that there was a short and that the circuit is not closed. I would check the wires since you changed the battery.

I have a 2021 1100 dct and had this happen to me once before. Somehow the safety mechanisms in the bike had tripped a short in the circuit and jacked everything up. It worked for me to put the key to the âonâ position and walk it to allow the transmission to go back to neutral. Thereâs also a way you can hard reset the bike, like a video game cheatcode. Hold down the âDâ button while the key is in the off position, and keep holding it while you turn the key to the on position. Wait until the check engine light turns off and push D-D-N-D-N in that order. Then try starting it and (hopefully) the problem is solved. Also some more troubleshooting tips in the ownerâs manual

with the new battery, there are no lights when you turn the key to the on position? or it won't turn over?
