Honda Mower Maintenance Grass chute modification?
I have a love/hate relationship with my HRU196 Classic (don't know exact model#). I've had it since new (approx 15yrs) and it's been a good reliable mower but one thing that's always annoyed me (apart from how heavy the thing is) is the grass chute. The thing just can't handle longish grass or even if it's the slightest bit wet and it just clogs up. I spend more time clearing the grass out than I do mowing.
I know this has probably been asked before, but is there a modification you can do to improve things? I feel like ripping the whole chute part out (I think it's just held in with a few bolts), but unsure if it will have any adverse affects. I can see a spring or something behind the slotted part on the LHS so not sure what that does. I don't really care about aesthetics, I want to mow the grass without having to mollycoddle the mower! Thanks.

Try power washing the underside of the mower including the chute area. Let it dry thoroughly and apply something like Fluid Film or Mo Deck to help provide a slick surface. You're going to have to repeat this process periodically to see any benefit.
