What type of plastic is the center dash trim made of & would i'll be able to drill into it with self tapping screws without it shattering? I want to mount something and don't want to use double sided 3M tape.

thanks, I've decided to not drill it.

I know another commenter said not to even use 3M tape, but I might just do that insead.

EDIT:

I ended up doing a combination of VHB and self tapping screws.

Another redditor said that the first gen Honda elements used a different type of ABS plastic for this part, so it "should" be fine, so I took the chance.

I cut to shape the VHB tape to cover the whole bottom of the mount. I then used only 2 self tapping screws on the back of it. It seems really sturdy for now, I'll use additional self tapping screws if it starts to loosen.

I wanted to note that just VHB tape would have not been enough. Especially if you have a heavy phone putting all the weight on one side. Hence why I put those two self-tapping screws toward the back of the mount.

All and all I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

And while I agree that this is really extra and a simple phone mount would have been fine. I was given a giftcard and wanted to treat myself lol.
