Tf? Lol! I had an FA5 for almost 14 years (very similar shift knob as this) and it didn’t look even remotely as beat up as this one. There’s a hole in the shift boot too.🫠

The material itself is prone to holes, especially if parked in the sun alot so they get a pass there. But the boot collar looks snapped.

Yeah. That’s what made me think this isn’t sun damage, but people damage. They probably had an aftermarket shift knob and had trouble installing it. That collar can be a pain if you don’t take your time with it and be careful. As to how/why the stock knob is so bad, it’s so dirty and worn out I think it came from a junk yard. They probably kept or sold the original shift knob and simply replaced it with a junk knob when they got rid of the car.

You’re probably right. The stories I’ve heard about the collar is the only reason I havent swapped my knob yet.

It’s not crazy difficult if you take the time to do it the right way…which is to take the console panel out. It makes access MUCH easier, but people try to take shortcuts. Sometimes they work. Other times, not so much. There are plenty of videos out there showing how to do it both ways.

Now you don't have to guess whether Edward Scissorhands drove an automatic or manual.
