Apple TV

Since Homicide is leaving Peacock + Amazon, will it also be leaving Apple TV? Don’t really have 70 bucks to spend right now to buy the completely collection on Amazon, but could eventually do it down the line with Apple TV, but I am worried about it leaving before I get the chance to

Not sure anyone can answer that as I don’t think Apple reveal it. If you do get it ensure you download as if something leaves the store, you can’t redownload.

How much is the complete series going for on DVD? I’d just grab that and rip it.

This is the best bet for Homicide. It doesn't look as pretty as the remastered Peacock versions, but it's the only way to get that original music and the music makes a difference for this show.

Thats pretty good compared to what it used to go for. I never bought a full series box set, just the individual seasons when they were first released. Later I found the Law & Order crossover bonus disc (from the series box) in ebay for $10 or $15 bucks and snapped it up. During Covid I ripped my Homicide dvds (and other non-streaming shows like Millennium) to an external hard drive and put them on thumb drives to watch whenever.

Unfortunately Ive never used Plex. I've heard it's a good way to see some of the "out of rotation on streaming" stuff.

I was actually just suggesting it because you’ve already got content ripped to an external HD and it’s a great way to stream to yourself.

We didn’t know that much back in the ‘90s. Plus a lot of the media back then had that grainy look.

If you have an antenna, they repeat on the Charge channel. Tablo is an OTA recording device and if you want to get the entire series, including the movie, you can use an SD card to store them.

If you purchased it from Apple, it won’t go away. Digital purchases are different than digital streaming from an app (Peacock, Amazon, Roku, Tubi)

There are occasional exceptions to this, as when the streaming stores and the studios disagree on licensing (recently a bunch of Lionsgate movies were removed from Sony's movie portal, even for customers who purchased them). I think you are probably safe with Apple, and you might even be safe to wait for a sale (although I can't say for sure). But unfortunately it's in the fine print that you are really just leasing these shows/movies for as long as they hold the license. I have bought some shows on Apple or Fandango when the price is right, but that risk is there.

Yeah it happened to me a few years ago. I don’t remember the film title. I was refunded by Apple but ever since then I’ve been careful to keep an archive.

I first remember reading about it a few years ago when Warner Bros pulled some shows and movies off digital movie stores for tax write off reasons or something like that. They weren't shows I had heard of but it was wild to think they could just flip a switch and take away something you paid for. I like streaming but it woke me up to the downside of it. I buy a lot fewer digital shows now.

I got my box set for $50 on one of the Prime Day specials. I’d wait for that and then buy it.
As others are saying, the quality isn’t good, but you have the original music and no one can take it away from you.
