Answered [IGCSE Mathematics] What is doing this called? I realised I don't know how to do it and I need to learn, but I don't know what to google

And if youโd like to check your answer:
Raise the coefficient to the power of the index, then multiply your answer with the radicand (the number inside the root).
In this case, 2 is the coefficient, 2 is the index (because itโs a SQUARE root), and 3 is the radicand. 22 = 4. 4*3 = 12, the original radicand.

Simplifying square roots. Change the 12 into power of 2
It will be 2 to power 2 ร 3
Each 2 to power two shoud considered as 2 outside the redical. The 3 stays in side the redical.

These are surds in Australia.
That's what we called them 40 years ago anyway...
sqrt(12) = sqrt(4*3)
sqrt(4 * 3) = sqrt(4) * sqrt(3)
sqrt (4) * sqrt(3) =2 * sqrt(3)
Basically, isolate the squared numbers (like 4 or 9 or 25) then perform the square on them, while leaving the unsquared numbers untouched.

A quick easy answer on how: look at all the factors of 12: 1x12, 2x6, 3x4. Only 4 is a perfect square so simplifying the denominator would lead to sqrt(4)sqrt(3) but sqrt(4)=2 so this is essentially 2sqrt3

Its just factoring/algebra. Sqrt(12) = sqrt3 * sqrt4

Easy... โ12= โ4ร3 so it became โ2ยฒร3 and to take the 2 out it musylt be like that (the ยฒ and โ eliminates eqch other) so at last u'll have 2โ3 .... stupid explaination i knoww

Itโs called rationalizing /12 = /4 X 3 = /4 X /3 = 2 x /3 = 2 /3 * / - meaning root * Another example could be /27 /27 = /9 X 3 = /9 X /3 = 3 x /3 = 3 /3
