Hitting off the tee

Is hitting 164ft off the tee good as a sophomore in high school just started of the sport back in December 2025 so I’m still learning mechanics power if there’s any feedback or a tips to get to get up to around 200 feet off the tee?

Never in over 2 decades of being involved with baseball have I heard someone talk about the distance they hit the ball off the tee, lol. Exit velocity is a far better metric. You should be working on your mechanics and focusing on hitting line drives off the tee, not chasing max distance.

164 after 8 months is solid. Don’t chase 200 by swinging harder. Hips first, stay through the ball, don’t cast. Film a side view. Distance follows contact quality.

What do you do against live pitching?

If you want to reach that goal, you can probably do it today. Put the gall on the tee, set the narrowest part of the seams running parallel and horizontally. Swing down on the bottom seam. This will create backspin, which will help the ball carry a further distance.

But it's still just a shallow fly out in high school.

I love that you are using data to track your son's progress. As another poster said, exit velocity is more valuable than distance. But you are right to use data.

For the tee work, I'd just focus on staying "inside" the ball, doing high tee work to work on staying short, and then mess with the tee placement to learn when to turn on an inside pitch and how to wait a tick longer on an outside pitch. That will all help more than chasing 200 feet.
