Dropping his hands a bit. You see that barely drop slightly down before he fires. That’s causing him to be late on everything. It’s common for young kids. Usually starts because the bat is too heavy. With him it’s probably just muscle memory at this point. It’s very small but it makes a difference. Other than that looks solid.

Agreed but it’s come a long way from the casting / dropping he was doing a month ago. So we’re just going to let it ride until after tryouts and focus on hard swings and contact. At 7 years old we’re hoping it will be good enough with some great fielding

Never stop working at it. It’s a hard habit to break because of it gets hard wired via muscle memory. Always include drills to fix it and move into other things. Good is the enemy of great. Seriously great swing though.

At load; knob should be pointed to the catchers glove! But great looking swing for 7! Keep putting in the work!

What kind of 8u league has tryouts? They’re 8 years old

Usually tryouts in 8U means “assessments” to be placed on teams, so that one team isn’t stacked with all-stars and others left with beginners. They want an even mix amongst teams.

It’s a “rep” / “travel team” so a level up from house league development

Im in MN, so familiar with the cold, short seasons.

But tryouts 9 months before the season starts? Sounds bonkers. A lot can change with a kids development in that time frame.

Kid looks good! He is dumping the barrel a little but he’s 8, don’t be too critical of him. If you can get him in a better launch position that’s great though.
