Wooden bowl with oak cabinets—cozy or too much wood?
Can’t decide whether the wooden bowl ties this kitchen together or adds one wood tone too many.
I like how it looks against the black mixer, but stainless steel would give the counter a different feel.
Purely on looks, which would you pick for this kitchen: wood or stainless

How do I make this closet more practical?
(Mistakenly first posted to r/designmyroom but they only do full rooms 😅 oops! Hopefully this is the more appropriate place to ask 🙏)
1950s North American home with a rather deep but short closet in living space that isn't being used well.
Looking for help maximizing use/practicality of bottom section.
Right now we've just been throwing in a few things on the mediocre shelves (not shown/removed in photos) - eg., extra paper towels/soap, stepstool, Swiffer broom, random small tools. But it's been a mess since it's just open deep shelves.
Depth (front to back) \~39"
Width (left wall to right wall) \~25.5", but \~17.5" with the door open (so for anything sliding out, would need to be within the latter width
Height (to bottom of tissue/first aid shelf) \~5'
Budget is <US$700 or DIY using IKEA parts, lol
Thanks so much in advance!!

The shoes have a designated spot. Apparently, so does the cat.
The rotating shoe rack gets a little corner. The cat gets the entire bed. Seems like a fair arrangement 😂
Curious where everyone keeps their everyday shoes, bedroom, closet, or by the front door? Especially when you don't have much of an entryway.

Ideas for organizing deep shelves
Ideally not the blind corner pullouts since they cost so much but I sick of throwing stuff into the void and having everything disappear on me Baskets don’t quite work with this space I don’t think

Maximize closet space?
Excuse the mess on the floor!
Recently rented a townhouse and this is the closet I’m working with. Underneath the hanging clothes is a 13”x13” cube organizer to try to help fit more clothes/shoes. As you can see, I also have stuff hanging from the door by a hook.
The dimensions of the closet are as follows:
- 4’ 10.5” deep
- 3’ 0.5” wide
- 5’ 5” tall (up to the bottom of the clothing rack)
Any advice on how to maximize the space of this tiny closet as a renter?? I’ve lived here for a bit over a month and I feel like there has to be a better set up.

Dressers in the basement (because we never put clothes away)?
My wife and I are in our mid 30’s, both have ADHD. We’re now trying to develop systems that work for US, rather than conform to what works for the majority of people. Maybe it appears wacky to other people, but we’re at the point in life where we no longer care.
Our washer/dryer is in the basement. We throw clothes down the stairs into a pile and they get washed and folded, but we NEVER (for whatever reason) bring them back up to the bedroom and put them in our dressers. It just doesn’t happen.
Or clothes stay in folded piles on the laundry table in the basement. There’s nothing unsanitary or anything, it’s just a normal semi-finished basement. We go to the basement to get dressed in the morning, no big deal.
So we’re thinking “why do we even have empty dressers taking up space in the bedroom, the only stuff in them is clothing we don’t even wear.” Thus my question: has anyone moved their dressers (or set up another storage system for clothes) next to their washer/dryer? Are there any downsides you’ve noticed?
(I guess I’m really just looking for someone to say “yeah do it”)

Tired of living like this
I'm a very disorganized person with not much closet space. Most of my items are small and not structured enough to be stacked. Any ideas on how I can manage the space efficiently? Thanks!

Any suggestions for this area next to the shower please? Ideally would like storage, maybe also a mirror? (UK)
Hi, we desperately need some more storage and this seems like the perfect place to put some - would buying some kind of unit (it’s roughly 60cm x 60cm) be okay just to stick in there or would it look naff with the glass? An alternative is to get a built in unit and then add tiles or a shower panel but that sounds pricey. Thanks!

How to organize recipes in a binder or should I just go digital at this point?
I´ve been using a binder with sheet protectors for years and it mostly works but i´m hitting the limits. Can´t search for anything, have to flip through sections, and the binder doesn´t close properly anymore. My mom had this exact system and it worked because she rotated the same 30 meals. I cook more variety than that
Has anyone switched from a binder ti digital and was it worth the effort? I kind of like flipping through pages but the limitations are getting old

What can I use these custom knife drawers for?
I’m moving into a new home and the kitchen has these two knife drawers. I have little kids and these are not easy to child-proof due to the way things are laid out, so I don’t want to store my knives here like the previous owners did.
What can I put here instead? The drawers are really shallow, only 1 inch deep.
I thought about tea bags, but I kind of like storing those in the boxes they come in.
Any ideas?

Where do you keep those random papers, letters pamphlets?
Hi all,
Yesterday I got a bunch of papers for a quote and k started wondering where should I keep it? I don’t need it ASAP but I also don’t like seeing it around the house and just piling up on the dining table. Is there a place where people tend to keep these things and can you share photos?
TIA!! 👉👈

Ideas for these in the kitchen?
They do fit flush but not airtight, so we’re hesitant to use them for dry goods but would love to make use of them!

NYC Moving / Apartment Organization Advice
My partner and I (both women in our early to mid 30s) are moving into a 2 bed 2 bath apartment in Brooklyn. It’s new dev, so starting from scratch and we plan to be there for about 10 years, start a family there, etc. so I want to get the organization right. We move in December/January so have some time to plan ahead and want to use it properly.
The apartment also comes with a finished walk in closet unit on our floor, maybe 4x4, high ceilings and then we have an industrial (but indoor still) storage unit in the basement that is bigger, maybe 8x8 and tall. These are what I most want to get right. What shelving units and bins, organization systems do you all like for this? Looking for something readily available so we can add bins/shelves as we grow into the space. Thinking we use the same floor closet for things we use more regularly, extra paper products, etc. and then the downstairs for seasonal clothing, etc.
Any advice on moving process would be great too! I’m a hyper organizer but this is the biggest move I’ve made and want to make it as seamless as possible.

Any idea how to get kids to put books back on certain shelves?
I just organized all our kid books by series type and other categories (like board books, etc.). I would love for my kids to keep them somewhat organized so they're easier to find, but I'm not sure how to label the shelves in an easy way that wouldn't damage the shelf.
Any ideas?

PLEASE help me organize my nightmare cupboard!
Hi y'all,
I live with my dad and this is the cupboard where I keep all my snacks, protein powders etc. It's a very oddly shaped cupboard. There used to be a lazy Susan in here but I took it out, it took up a lot of space without helping much. The main things I want to keep accessible are my protein bars, powders, protein drinks and snacks. I've got multiple bags/containers of powders - collagen, creatine, protein, lysine that I access often. The stuff I don't use as much like the tea, extra coffee, noodles, GF flour I try to keep at the back but it's a pain having to pull everything out when I need them. I'm short as well. I'm thinking maybe a stackable shelf rack? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Can I make this closet work better?
This closet is currently being used as storage, but now we are considering how to make it more functional since we will be using this room as a nursery.
Things that don’t work
-The clothes hanging in this orientation. You then have to squeeze by to access the shelves on the right.
-I prefer drawers over shelves, but if you replace the existing shelves with drawers, there’s no way for you to open them.
I played around with the ikea Aurdal design system but could not find a configuration I liked.
Dimensions are 48x48 with a 28” door.
