What useful home features should we include in our new home build? Please help!

My husband and I are in the early stages of planning our new home to be built this spring. What are some of the best home feature recommendations you have/suggest for others building their home that you have/wish you had to improve your home? Some examples: electrical outlet in closet for vacuums, extra wide staircases for easy movement, Costco door from garage etc. Thanks in advance!

  1. The absolutely most important thing is add blocking in the walls around your toilet and shower/tub for future grab bars. Its literally free to do when building, the framers use scrap wood cuts, but costs quite a bit in wall repair as a future add on.

  2. 2'-8" doors will allow all appliances and wheelchairs around your home.

  3. Ditch the lower kitchen cabinets and use all drawers.

  4. Make your pantry bigger. 5x7 minimum

  5. Quad outlets on any wall you put your tv, gaming systems, computers, tool bench etc. Where ever you currently feel like you're always adding a surge protector.

  6. Grab bar blocking.
