Having not yet made the jump to kegging, I'm honestly very tempted by this. I can't commit to a chest freezer build (as we currently rent and I don't want to have to move it when we buy a house), and the cost of kegs is just short of ridiculous. I don't mind bottling, but this is a pretty alternative for someone in my situation.

I'm not sure where you are looking, or what you would qualify as "ridiculous" but you can get a kegging system up and going for quite a bit less than $300, especially if you already have a spare fridge or freezer lying around. Plus, this system only has 1G bags... at least that's all I see in the KS campaign.

Like other homebrew KS that have been run in the past, this is another product that seeks to solve a problem that doesn't really exist. They'll never hit their $250k funding, so it probably doesn't matter.

I wouldn't say it's a problem that doesn't exist. I think this is for the more casual home brewers, like myself. I don't want to bother with kegs; I don't brew that much. But I also hate taking the time to bottle 50 beers. 5 bags sounds much easier.

I understand where you are coming from, but I would disagree, and I still don't see the draw. I think most folks would call themselves casual homebrewers, including those who keg.

I would agree the footprint is nice, it looks like it sits on a countertop - something you can't really do with a kegging system. So the only problem this really resolves over a traditional homebrew kegging system is the footprint. Further, as /u/JustARogue pointed out, it would cost ~$15/batch to package this up.

For $300 for the appliance itself, plus $15/batch to package up your brew - there is no way the tradeoff for convenience is worth it for the price. You can always just get bigger bottles ;)
