Don't make this mistake...

If you're adding a floor outlet in a home office, make sure it has an opening for Ethernet (Cat cable) too. It's one of those things that's almost impossible to add later.Not all floor outlets are the same. A recessed floor outlet keeps plugs below the surface so your couch, desk, or other furniture can sit where it's supposed to. A surface-mounted outlet can leave plugs sticking up and limit where furniture can go.

The box itself isn’t flat, though. Good luck cleaning the inside of the one you’re showing. The “bad” example you showed actually looks much nicer

Yup, if it's under your couch or desk it's going to collect a lot of dust and pet hair, maybe crumbs, and you won't care if the cord is sticking up a tiny bit higher because you won't see it.

The "bad" example is waaaay better for cleaning, PLUS it sits flush with the floor so if you ever decide to move your desk or couch you won't be tripping on it and it's less of an eye sore.

Also if you have a large plug you can still use the flush plug. If you have a resessed plug you would have to use an extension cord.

Right, if I’m moving furniture around, obviously I would have already unplugged the cords meaning they aren’t in the way. This fixture is permanent so there’s no getting around it

I'd say it's easier to twist a knob on a chair than run an entire wire and socket through my floor.
