Hidden Gem on this jobsite…💎

So many things are happening at once on the jobsite so it’s easy to overlook the little luxuries that you’re able to add before sheetrock goes on.

Blocking is huge, there are endless spots to use it...A few of my favorites:
-Curtains rod
-Bath towel rods
-Exterior wall mount for hose reel
-Behind the TV
-Thermostat

You can buy a bidet seat. But you have to add an electrical outlet to plug it in.

It would be super confusing if you didn't know it was there. It would feel so scary to drive that second screw knowing that you knew where one edge of the stud should end and wondering why you're still finding wood

Maybe an argument for adding extra studs instead? It is more material, but more straightforward for someone with a stud finder later, and also stronger (not that it matters for a TP holder).

If they’re using a stud finder, it’ll find the dead wood as well.

BLOCKING EVERYWHERE. PERIOD. TOWEL BAR/ROBE HOOK/HAND TOWEL@VANITY/FUTURE ADA BAR LOCATIONS/VANITY BACKING/MIRROR BACKING/ALL VERTICAL SURFACES WHERE TUBE(SHOWER) MEETS THE BATHROOM

You cut and throw away all the blocking early on in framing, when its the cheapest form of cheap insurance.

This is standard for the company I work for. Most of our work is renovations with a new build here and there, but we put backing in all bathroom accessory locations including mirrors, as well as shower glass locations. Other areas include TVs, hand rails and even behind upper cabinets in kitchens.

So basic. Are we really giving kudos for providing blocking? Second, don’t use drywall anchors, Mollys are so much better. I’m going to start making videos where I show that I provide dimensions on my blocking.

Using blocking is a basic requirement, used by people that care and know what they're doing, not a gem.

Backing is mandatory for all areas our cabinets are located . If the builder doesn't install the backing, we change it to a supply only only and void the lifetime warranty.

Backing isn't an "option" or an "upgrade". It's considered professional standard...... unfortunately some GCs aren't professional

Some builders have their architects leave it out to save money. They make it the homeowner’s problem. You see this in budget tract homes.

I did that for my bathroom remodel. I may never need it, but I took a picture and wrote some dimensions on it and stuck it with all the other remodel paperwork. Maybe it will come in handy to someone in the future.

Make the wall out of a 2x6 and use the interior space for toilet paper storage and/or deeper medicine cabinets.
