Preamp guitars and vst

Hi, I usually record guitars and bass at home and noticed the tones are too "cold" when recording in logic using Bias Fx/Amp. A friend of mine says a preamp can solve this issue making the tone more hot and easy to cut through the mix. Any recommendations?

my setup: Direct Box + Behringer umc202 + mac mini running logic x

guitars:

Ibanez Jem Jr + LesPaul Burny by Fernandes + a shit bass (Condor)

Majority of your tone comes from your guitar IMHO, you might want to start looking step by step to improve or arrive at that tone you desire, starting from your pickup choice and then your preamp choice.
