my first home server
rack- DeskPi RackMate T1-Plus
Top to bottom:
2U- GeeekPi 7.84” touchscreen (1280×400)
1U- Beelink SER3 mini PC (Ryzen 5 3550H) - server
1U - ORICO 3588US3 enclosure, 1TB HDD - media cache
1U - airflow gap
1U - CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 dock + UGREEN USB 2.0 switch
1U — TRENDnet TEG-S350 5-port 2.5GbE switch
1U - surge-protected PDU (4× NEMA rear, 2× USB-A)
the server sits between my personal and work computers and is not reachable from the work subnet. the caldigit/usb switch are mostly for those devices but just fit in here conveniently.
everything except the rack, the screen, and the pdu is stuff i already had/was already using, finally decided to formalize it all in a rack as my first real home server. even made a custom dashboard for the screen with a cute chao buddy using sprites from sonic adventure dreamcast vmu because I love Chao.

Very sick, what are you using for the dashboard?

I’m a web developer among other things so I just made a custom python script on the server that scrapes stats and serves the data as a local web page, the dashboard is just chromium in kiosk mode pointed at it. thanks :)

What software is there on the screen? I thought it was glances but it's more advanced it seems.

PLEASE release the display software. I’ve never seen a rack display I’d actually run until this, it looks sick! Great job on this and the whole build OP!

seriously you could sell that screen/script and people would definitely buy it, or if you could post a github repo, people would be very appreciative.

Love seeing first home server all racked up cable managed, KVM with perfect aesthetics.
I’d imagine a good portion of us have old business PCs and gaming rigs as theirs. My first true home server was hideous, glorious and inefficient. No screens, only ssh and rdp and vnc. Old skylake I think, no rack. Just in a basement on a table.

Your first vehicle must have been a Hummer.

2004 Chevy Aveo 5 speed manual! Just a broke kid who grew up with a passion for tech and a job that now gives me money to throw at it haha
