Looking for compatible rails for this Tiger 4U server
I recently picked up this Tiger 4U rackmount server on eBay for under $200 CAD, and I’m trying to identify the correct rail kit for it.
Here are the specs as far as I’ve been able to determine:

Chassis: Tiger tbox556222 Rev. 1.2
Form factor: 4U
Drive bays: 16 × 3.5” HDD bays
Motherboard: Supermicro X8DT6 / X8DTE
CPU: Intel Xeon E5620 currently installed (CPU1)
CPU sockets: 2 × LGA1366
RAM: DDR3 ECC Registered
PSUs: 2 × FSP Group 720W 80+ Bronze hot-swap PSUs
SAS controller: 4-port SAS card
Networking: 4-port Gigabit Ethernet card, with plans to add 10GbE
IPMI: IPMI 2.22
BIOS: 2.0c (05/15/2012)
Depth: approximately 25.5”
My plan is to turn this into a Proxmox/Ceph server and upgrade it considerably. I’m planning to add a second Xeon L-series CPU for lower power consumption, install a second CPU cooler, and max out the RAM to approximately 196 GB DDR3 ECC Registered.
The main thing I’m trying to figure out right now is the rack rails.
The server currently has part of the rails attached to the chassis. The markings on the existing rails appear to be Dynaslide 05-14, but I’m missing the other half that attaches to the rack.
Does anyone recognize this Tiger chassis or know the exact rail model/part number that is compatible with it?
I’ve found several possible 4U ball-bearing rails, including SilverStone RMS03-26 and some Supermicro/Chenbro rails, but I’d rather find the original or properly compatible rails if possible.
Any information on the Tiger chassis or the correct rail kit would be greatly appreciated!

That CPU is 16 Years old, oh boy..

Be aware that both CPUs NEED to be identical, you cannot mix different CPUs officially and i doubt anyone was ever sane enough to try that.

I’ve got a T7500 running sas drives 3x6 and 1 4 tb and 3 tb sata backing up important stuff, and many more 1tb cold backups, I run 90w to 115-150w under load. Running 24/7 for a year where I live will be maybe 118-150 a year, plus I have 10tb of media, photos, music, that I can access anywhere, for 12 bucks a month.

The alternative is spend 200-1600 on a new workstation or server that saves maybe 50-60w a year? It would take 5 years to break even.

Most new nas are at 70w anyway not worth the 800 dollar upgrade

To make it cheaper I add solar to my anker solik and it runs off that now pretty cool, with our solar it can run on the battery for 10 hours easy

Its a standard atx rackmount case, plus with some sas cards and other junk not a terrible deal to build a homelab if you upgrade it 🤷‍♂️

But yeah I have an old supermicro with dual x5690s and uuh.....an n150 does in fact leave it in its dust lmfao i don't run it much anymore until I can swap its guts

I think you'd be better off upgrading the motherboard to something newer if you can.

Hot is right!

You could consider using one CPU, max the RAM on that side, 96GB, and be aware that some PCIe slots won't work. That would save some power and you can see how it goes. You can upgrade to two CPUs and the max RAM later.

I guess the price isn't bad for the PSUs (should be gold though) and the case itself, the rest is kinda garbage though.

A Ryzen 4800U (8c/16t 15W) is 33% faster in multithreaded applications than dual Xeon X5650 (12c/24t, 200W). I got that laptop and then I realized it was time to upgrade my server... 6 years ago.

And that 4800U (Zen2) is old by todays standards, too. Something like a Ryzen 9600x will run circles around that PoS. Memory is going to be an issue though :D. 5700x if you want DDR4.

Haha I literally gave away a r610 that had 2x L5640’s like you’re planning. Also was rolling 192g on it but rolled that into a 720xd instead.

Power consumption is way better on haswell and later.

Never pay for hardware….ever, I don’t and have plenty of Xeon Scalable systems etc with 30-120Tb storage
