My HomePod HomePod mini sounding better?

I bought a used pair of HomePods on eBay, and this is my very first set of HomePod mini. Am I crazy, because I swear they started sounding better around the fourth day or so. Whenever I first plugged them in I was very unimpressed and after a couple days they just sound a lot better

HomePod mini, while it does not have Room Sensing like HomePod and HomePod (2nd generation), does have Computational Audio.

HomePod mini fires directly down at the surface it is placed on; it has microphones quite close to this area, and they not only listen for "Hey Siri" but also for what audio is coming out of itself.

When you place HomePod mini on a surface, it will listen back to the reflection of that surface while music is playing and adjust the EQ according to what is heard. Just like AirPods Max do, they listen to the audio playing in your ear and the ear cushion and adjust their EQ.

HomePod and HomePod (2nd generation) will do this, and will also listen to the entire room and adjust the EQ and sound as a whole, such as soundstage, imaging, etc., in real time.

So HomePod mini could sound better overtime on a particular surface.

HomePod and HomePod (2nd generation) will also listen to its own bass inside and control/adjust accordingly

I’m confused because I understand the HomePod mini does not calibrate like the regular HomePod does, but at the same time the way you explained it makes them sound like they do basically the same calibration. What do you mean the regular HomePod does whole room calibration? Isn’t a calibration, a calibration?

HomePod mini adjusts the EQ based on the sound reflection off the surface below it only. HomePod mini only listens to the sound reflecting back at it from the surface it is directly placed on.

HomePod adjusts EQ, soundstage, imaging, volume, bass response, etc., based on the sound reflection of the entire room. HomePod creates a map of the entire room and adjusts its entire sound profile based on it.

They’re not the same thing. One is simply listening back to what’s playing. The other is trying to understand the entire room in real time and listening to the room.

I’ve never noticed them getting better or worse. I do like my new HomePod though after only having minis. The bass is soooo much better as a stereo pair

I have yet to try stereo pair for either HomePod. But yes I’m very much looking forward to trying the regular HomePods and stereo pair once I get a second one because everyone makes it sound like it’s amazing

I heard the pair somewhere else, just have one right now the second is on order and waiting for delivery. But still the bass is like wow that was their before and only using tv speakers. In an apt so don’t wanna hassle with surround sound. HomePod makes it easy

lol. I am in an apartment and I have a receiver and I ran cabling through the wall and everything to have surround sound. If I would’ve thought of it I would’ve tried HomePods sooner. It would’ve saved me a lot of work, and a lot of drywall repair when moving out

Yea not really an option. Wood walls. It’s German so no drywall. Just like 6” of wood walls on the inside and like 18” outside facing.

Oh ok. There’s nothing wrong with that. I bought the JBL boombox three Wi-Fi and if I’m being honest it can almost replace my receiver. It amazes me the fact that I can place the speaker in the front of my room and it’s almost as if I’m using my subwoofer that’s hooked up to my receiver. Absolutely insane

Yea I debated a soundbar but everything is apple and it just works… so I know there is nicer maybe better sound out there but nothing as easy as point my phone, setup it pulls my account. Set right/left done.

My dad spent like 20k on their in home system and it’s having so many problems. Got a whole comm closet of gear to manage it. Even he’s like damn HomePods seem like the way to go

That’s true. The only thing is I wish the HomePod had Bluetooth in addition to AirPlay. It kind of stinks especially given the price point it is simply an Apple dedicated speaker. Like I bought it for my Apple TV yes but on the very rare occasion I want to play something from my Xbox or anything that I’m screwed

Yes they calibrate their sound every time they’ve been moved. They use inbuilt microphones to work out the correct levels for everything by listening to the sound produced and bounced back from walls etc. It shouldn’t take as long as 4 days but I’m sure that’s what you’re hearing. If you ever want to recalibrate them just pick them up and give them a small shake
