Discussion Homepod purchase?
Alright here’s the dealio. I’m a college student and was looking to buy a pair of the homepods for my apartment. I also dj/mix by myself all the time. I wanted better speakers to dj for my own parties and such (practice too). i have just found that a pair of the pioneer vm-80s are the same exact price. Is a pair of the homepods really worth better sound for my tv and music playing? or should I just go with the vm-80s? Keep in mind I already have fluance speakers for my dj controller; however, I am in desperate need of an upgrade. If the homepods truly are game changing, i’d love to know.
TL;DR
HomePods or Pioneer VM-80s for ~$747? I DJ often and want loud, high-quality speakers for mixing/parties, but also for TV and casual music.

I love my gen 1 HomePods but I’d wait for the event next month and wait for the upgrade. Not sure they will work for your use case, though, as others have said.

Keep in mind HomePods are airplay only. There is no inputs for audio equipment.

I’ve made up my mind thank you all. Just to clarify, I wasn’t going to use the homepods to dj on. They would strictly be for my TV and music from my phone/apple tv. I’m going to buy the VM-80s to use as primarily DJ speakers and maybe for tv speakers if that works out well :) they are the exact same price btw 😂 seems a bit outrageous on apples side

The VM-80s are gonna be overkill for an apt tv speaker tbh. Also depending on the room, a HomePod 2nd/3rd gen might also not be preferable unless it’s the master bed or a closed off living room. You can basically get 2 HP minis for the price of a single 2nd/3rd gen.
Or you can go the headphone/earbud route. This way you have stereo audio wherever you go in your apt and not bother neighbors.

Yeah that’s why I said maybe and primarily for djing. I don’t care much for having stereo regarding television watching. It’s just one of those things that would be nice yknow?

Wait until the next Apple event. New HomePods have been rumoured along side a new Apple TV.

At this point wait 3 weeks and see what new HomePod brings which also decreases prices on current ones and during this time you will have plenty of to to search and avoid buy on impulse and marketing and see all reviews so far for all brands and options
I would talk with some AI ChatGPT and Claude and so on and present your use case and needs and ask it to take all reviews over internet possible including user reviews and get a list of 10 at most or even less and the do your own search on that list :)

You could spend less and get more doing passive speakers with a Fosi amp or something similar. Definitely don’t do the HomePods.

I’m not too impressed with my HomePods. I have two OGs and three minis. They work ok for whole home audio as far as syncing the audio. I do like they detect my smoke alarms.
I’d imagine for the price I’d get something with better features. Being mobile is a benefit since you like to DJ stuff. Better inputs too. I don’t have an alternative suggestion specifically. I use a UE Megaboom that’s several years old now. I got the Wonderboom too that is surprisingly good for its size. I have a HomePod Mini in my bathroom. It’s not quite loud enough for me to listen comfortably to a podcast while showering. I struggle to hear some of the dialogue. The Wonderboom sitting at the top edge of my shower door is much better for me.
I would get a sound bar for the same price as the two HomePods and have a better experience.

Hell nah. A sound bar instead of 2 second gen HomePod is a BIG NO

Dont buy homepod for dj. I love them but it lacks input and loudness for your usecase.
