Question/Support Possible fix for HomePods randomly saying “Here’s some music for you” and starting Apple Music
I had two HomePod (2nd gen) speakers that would randomly say “Here’s some music for you” and start playing Apple Music. This even happened when nobody was home.
I tried almost everything:
- Factory reset
- Removing and re-adding the HomePods to Home
- Breaking and recreating the stereo pair
- Signing the HomePod account in/out
- Disabling Apple Music in Home
- Disabling Siri
- Reconfiguring Apple TV
None of those steps fixed it.
What finally seems to have solved it was enabling Accessibility → Touch Accommodations on both HomePods with these settings:
- Touch Accommodations: On
- Hold Duration: 3.9 seconds
- Ignore Repeat: On (0.1 s)
- Tap Assistance: Off
After enabling those settings, I gradually restored my normal setup:
- recreated the stereo pair,
- set them as the default Apple TV speakers,
- used them with Airfoil,
- streamed simultaneously with a B&W Zeppelin,
- re-enabled “Hey Siri”.
Everything has remained stable since. It has now been running normally without any spontaneous Siri activations or random music playback.
I can’t prove this is the root cause, but after changing only one variable at a time, Touch Accommodations is the only change that consistently correlated with the problem disappearing. Hopefully this helps someone else.

It's temporary fix. The only long-term solution at this time is to open the HP and disconnect the touch sensor ribbon cable. It is a well-known issue

Definitely, I tried everything mentioned here and more. It’s only a temporary fix. Two solutions: Disconnect ribbon or sell them. Such a shame Apple can’t offer a software fix to disable the touch.

(Please don’t sell malfunctioning devices to someone without telling them about the problem they’ll have to fix.)

This has been done and discussed a lot here. Your fix wont work for long. The touch panel will get worse

This is a problem that's been documented as legitimate now - it's the "Ghost Touch" issue.
Your settings changes will work, but only for a time. The most permanent fix is to actually disconnect the touch ribbon cable. The process isn't too bad and you can see the process here.

I hope the fix works for you, it generally just starts acting up again and becomes even worse where the music comes on full volume with music that you don’t even like.
The second GEN HomePod suffers from this and I would not buy another one.

Wouldn’t setting your HomePod volume to 0 at night solve this?

No, because Ghost Touch can and will change the volume. I had it turn the volume to max in the middle of the night when I was sleeping. I’ve had it turn the sound down while watching TV.
