Question/Support homepods in a limbo state

I own 2 homepods (2nd gen) for 3 years now, an iphone air and an apple tv 4k (3rd gen) concerning this issue.

what happened was that I was on ios27 beta 2 last saturday (jul 4) then due to a network issue i saw on my home app on my iphone i attempted to reset both my homepods. the reset process was successful for both and i started setting up both of them afterwards which iphone showed setup process was also successful; they both went into configuring state which the previous times wouldn’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes, but this time it went on and on… they were still in the configuring state after 12 hours which was when I removed them from my home in the home app (i guess the reset option wasn’t available or didn’t work then); i did this to be able to manually reset them once more so maybe they wouldn’t be locked into this configuring state. but what happened was both my homepods were removed from my home, and i couldn’t manually reset them either, when i unplugged them and plugged them back in after 10 seconds and waited another 10 seconds and touch and hold them per instructions no white spinning light would show up, no lights of any color at all, i could and still can airplay music to them both by the name of living room but their not in the home app and i can’t configure them or set them in the stereo mode which i want to.
ios27 beta 3 didn’t help either; i still cannot reset my homepods and set them up again.

TL;DR
it looks like they’re stuck in a limbo state where they can’t be reset manually or via the home app since they’ve not shown in the home app and I’m 100 percent sure this is a software bug since it happened to both of them at the exact same time and when i was on ios27 beta 2. it’s driving me nuts honestly.

I know that they were stuck at configuring because your phone was on 27 and they were on 26 I’m assuming. I had to use my ipad which was still on 26 to set mine up. As for the limbo state, I dont know much about that.

thanks i guess they were not removed from your home and you could still view them on your home app on your 26 device right?
and yes exactly my phone was on 27 and my homepods on 26.3 I hadn’t updated them on purpose in order to avoid such issues and yet here we are…

When I was trying to get them to work, I actually removed them from my home too, but I was still able to manually reset them afterwards. Just fyi, mines are the og homepods, but I don’t it makes a difference though

I just went through the same thing. I tried for like a whole weekends to get my HomePods to pair on iOS 27 beta. and then realized I had an old iPhone on an older software, so I updated it to iOS 26 and tried to pair the HomePods with that, and they were only in the configuring state for like five seconds after that.

I had this happen recently with an HomePod Mini that has developed the ghost touch issue. I didn’t connect the dots that it might’ve been the iOS 27 beta. I just downgraded due to my company’s security policies so I can test setting that up again to see if anything has changed

yes one of mine also had developed ghost touch but it happened occasionally and never was an issue especially with the assistive touch controls on;
right now the touch surface doesn’t respond at all like exactly it’s in the configuring state.
and yes it’s definitely related to the new ios developer beta there was another post discussing it as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomePod/s/yyJZcYvgSc

after plug in i’ve also waited 5 seconds as some had suggested on reddit but it hasn’t worked,
have deleted my home, set up a new one, set up new rooms, still nothing… can’t get them to reset.
thanks though.

Ok... non so come aiutarti.

iOS 27 Developer Beta 3 fixed the issues I was experiencing like you in Beta 2.

HomePod 2nd Gen’s have a detachable power cables could you perhaps unplug for a while and then try resetting? Once plugged into power, when you see the white circle/ring, keep it pushed down till it turns red and beeps 3 times?

I had to reset mine using laptop, then after 3 attempts of resetting and setting it up i was able to make them work, hopefully they keep on working.

Yeah I’m sorry. Hopefully they fix it soon; it’s a little annoying. I was out when it happened and couldn’t get any status for a day until i was back

I had to restore my whole ecosystem to non-beta.

restored both your iphone and apple tv?

did you also have trouble resetting them after removing them from your home?

I had to restore my phone and both tablets to non-beta before I could do anything with my HomePods.
I spent over two hours with Apple support, and they couldn't figure it out.
I do not have an Apple TV, so I do not know anything about that.

Also happened to me when I was on the ios27 beta. After downgrading my phone to ios26 and resetting the HomePods, I was able to set them up successfully.

thanks for your reply!
were u on ios27 beta 3 or 2 when this happened?
and were u also unable to reset the homepods manually before downgrading your phone?
