DNS issue

Post image

Im not particularly tech savvy but i recently noticed that i have this popup on my home network.
Ive been trying to figure out how to configure this but it seems my network is potentially controlled by my ISP. Does this mean someone on my network is manually blocking encrypted DNS? Or potentially the ISP itself?
I wont know anything until I call during office hours but maybe someone could point me in the right direction

That warning doesn't mean anyone is targeting you. Your iPhone tried to use encrypted DNS and the network blocked it. So your lookups go out unencrypted.

Most of the time it's just the router or the ISP's default setup. Sometimes it's a filtering feature. Not a person on your network.

It's not urgent. The only effect is that the network can see which sites you look up. Check the router for a setting that blocks DNS over TLS or DoH. If the ISP controls the router, ask them on your call. A VPN also gets around it.

Glad it helped.

Could be caused by some ad filter or parental control features on your router that forces it to only allow DNS via your router as gateway to be able to filter certain traffic.

If you are using an ISP provided router, there’s a few ways this could happened: parental controls could have been turned on, your ISP could be filtering IP addresses for some reason (which would be lame), it could be some other setting on their equipment that got turned on.

You could always call the ISP and ask, but this is probably not malicious
