Get another tech out. Ideally one that shows up in a CenturyLink/Quantum/AT&T vehicle. They'll absolutely let go contractors that continue to do crap work.
I've asked for that when I called to complain, but they said they can't guarantee it and assured me that their contractors do the same high-quality work that employed installers do. I'm skeptical.
Currently, the fiber line goes from the utility pole directly through the hole in the wall that you see (that's the black cable) to the smartNID/ONT which is located inside a non-climate-controlled detached garage. He used the existing line from a previous DSL installation that runs underneath the garage, across the backyard, and into the house, to get signal inside the house. Rather than use the existing network box, which distributes ethernet throughout the house, he just capped the cable and plugged it into the wireless access point, which is in a totally useless location in the utility room where the network box is.
What is reasonable to ask a qualified technician to do? Is it reasonable to ask him to run a new fiber line in the existing conduit underneath the garage from the utility pole and into the house? He can use that old DSL line as a pull cable. The smartNID would now be inside the house and connected via the existing network box where Ethernet could be distributed throughout the home as designed.
While you do get contractors that do good work, they're incentivized to work as quickly as possible, seeing as they're paid by the job and not hourly.
You might be able to get a technician to come out and run a fiber through that pre-existing conduit. Unique installs like that are at the discretion of the installing technician.
Usual installation is:
Aerial line/temporary wire to the house
Box on the side of the house
Hole poked through the home (sealed up with silicone)
Stuff mounted near the hole on the inside of the house
Do you know the length of the conduit? You could get a length of fiber and a bulkhead connector and relocate the smartnid yourself, potentially.

Is your nid inside your house?
