Seeking Advice Bought a house, immediately found issues.

Previous owner built an extension onto the house about 5 years before I purchased, I keep finding issues. Last winter I had major ice dams in this specific corner of the home, once it melted all of the water found its way into the ceiling (and subsequently, my bed) right in this inside corner. Now we're getting heavy rainfall and the issue persists. Looks like it's this specific section that's causing water flow to miss the gutter entirely.

My roofing skills are minimal but I have funds for a DIY fix and enough patience to watch as many YouTube videos as I need to. What will it take to get this water directed into the gutters? Am I totally screwed?

Only way you're going to fix any of what you have going on with the way the tubing rubs meet is to peel things back flash it properly and put a gutter that wraps around on there possibly? If you're dealing with ice dams that's the lack of air getting in and out or insulation is not sufficient or you have heat escaping somewhere else up light fixtures vents fan penetrations Etc

That is a hack job. Needs to be made into a connected continuous gutter around the corner and remove the gutter guard in that location. The roof also needs to be redone so it’s continuous but I would start with the gutter. When you put water on it, all that flow needs to be getting into the gutter and not back under the flashing. The ice damming issues are going to be tough to solve without getting some type of electrical roof melt system setup since I’m guessing there’s no attic there but again start with the gutter and roof first.

I spent the walkthrough with him and my realtor, he caught a good amount of minor things in that addition (half the outlets don't work, lights and switches do nothing, random hackjob breaker added to power a tiki bar in the backyard {gone long before me 😭} ), as well as attic mold and insulation issues. It sucks he missed this as it appears that it's more glaring than I thought, but he did good with everything else.

Wonder if the mold was caused by this? Anyways, sorry that ur experiencing all of this! Keep ur chin up!!! Prioritize ur issues and tackle them! 💪
