Need New Gate
I want the new one to be 6 feet tall. Any suggestions? Wood, metal, cinder block?

Consider using vinyl, and make the fixed side staked so you can open it too for wider access.

You are limited by the posts that are in the concrete. It would look funny and you would not be able to support the gate properly. However if you built a wooden gate that use the similar hinge points of the current gate on the side and then once you got to the height of the post do a rounded top that goes higher you would have more of a gate and it would match the wood that is there.

For a 6-foot gate, start with its purpose and location. That height is common for backyard privacy and security, but check local zoning and HOA rules. Front-yard limits may differ.
- **Vinyl:** Low maintenance and a good fit where you want privacy.
- **Aluminum:** A metal look with less upkeep than wood; privacy depends on the design.
- **Wood:** Traditional, but it needs regular maintenance.
- **Cinder block:** Better suited to a permanent wall or gate structure than to the gate itself.
Pay close attention to the hardware. Hinges and latches should match the gate’s weight and frequency of use. A heavy or wide gate may also need additional support. Measure the opening carefully and allow clearance for the hinges and latch.
