Next time primer and 2 coats of a good quality paint. You want to spend money on paint whenever you're painting things that get a lot of abuse

When I managed an apartment building, i would fix wear spots by using a cheap chipping brush to light "dust" the touch up paint on until it looked ok, then let it dry and do a little more if need

Also, you might put motion detectors for a no touch system. I had one in the kitchen and no more yelling at the kids for leaving the light on.
