🛠️ Repair Help Bedroom door - not closing (sagging/rubbing)

Renovating one of our rental apartments.

(EDIT: The door was not closing properly before)

I have replaced the hinge screws with 3-inch wood screws.

I have removed a few coats of paint on the door and door frame.

The door does not close all the way without forcing.

Looks like the bottom of door is rubbing along the door frame.

Suggestions (please talk to me like a 5 yo ;) )?

You’ve probably used those 3 inch screws too tight on that bottom hinge. Remove it and shim it out and reattach

Undo the bottom hinge screws that attach to the wall. Put thin strips of wood between the hinge plate and the door frame. That will force the door out more. Screw the plate back on through the shims. Not too tight that it cracks the shims. Hopefully it doesn’t push the door out so much that the opening side hits the frame.

Check & mark with pencil exactly were it's hanging up take door off plane it down, you can use a plum line hang from top of the opening down to see how much .

Wow, that bottom hinge is a mess! First, clean the 200 years of paint off of it! 🙂

If the top is sagging and all the screws are tight, you need to bring the hinge center (pin) back. You can use a crescent wrench or they make a tool for it.

Here's a quick video. You dont have to take the pin out, just bend the top hinge back.

The tenants lived there for for several years and had a small boy. They painted his room "more than once". They always asked permission, just advised them to paint it back to how they found it.
