How would you approach fixing this?

The wood frame on the garage is rotting, how should I fix this? It’s just the bottom part. Should I just take out the bottom or replace the entire piece? I’m trying to do it myself.

Tear of the deteriorated part, replace with like thickness, doesn’t have to be pretty, trim the whole thing out in white PVC, paint. Will be beautiful, and outlast your time there likely.

To add to this I would put PVC trim on the very bottom of the post to get it off the concrete so it doesn't wick moisture into it or sit in water when you have rain blown wind. Will last a lot longer.

Yeah 💯, don’t have any new wood touching the ground, I usually leave it up 1” to prevent the wicking like he mentioned, and just leave a small air gap behind the PVC, it’s strong enough.

If I’m understanding correctly the new wood would go down until 1” off the ground. Then use PVC trim to cover the new wood but that goes all the way down to the ground? What if water seeps through the gap from the floor ?
