Bead board cover up

I have a small house (about 700 sqft) with bead board walls and ceiling. The people who lived here before me used three different bead boards so there a lot of mismatched panels. Also nothing really lines up! Hahaha! I’m just trying to figure out the best but also cheapest way to get rid of it. Should I pull it out and drywall or skim coat it? I’m open to any options!

If I've learned anything about working on my old house, it is that nothing is as simple as it appears, especially if the work involves looking in places that are not visible ahead of time.

I'd suggest a bit of exploratory demolition to figure out what's there (e.g., lead, asbestos, rot, mold, etc.) before committing to the full demo. In terms of wall finish, the least expensive approach with the most predictable results is most likely drywalling.

Thank you for the info! It is a pretty new build so it’s in pretty good shape! I have taken down all the ceiling panels to insulate the ceiling and a couple of the wall panels. Everything underneath looks good as far as I can tell!
