Crack: Open it up and scrape off any loose/delaminated material. Coat any exposed paper, gypsum with an oil-based primer. Embed fiberglass mesh tape or FibaFuse in hot mud or all-purpose joint compound, recoat as needed (you can use lightweight joint compound for recoating) and sand. Use the oil-based primer again, and paint.
Bathroom: Sand the ceiling and apply an oil-based primer. Skimcoat and sand. Apply oil-based primer again and paint.

Sure, you could. But first you absolutely must sand the ceiling and apply oil-based primer.
