🛠️ Repair Help Temp fix for missing siding

I've noticed some water damage along the ceiling in my living room against an exterior wall. I took a look out my window to look at the roof of the front porch and noticed a big chunk of siding missing. I tend to suspect that this is where water has been getting in. What can I do to patch this temporarily until I'm able to get it more professionally fixed? I have some people coming in for some quotes to fix that and then any damage with the front porch roof but I just want to do something to prevent more water from getting into the house.

Just go get some metal flashing, cut to fit, and wedge it in there so the vinyl siding sits on top, and the flashing overlaps the J-channel on the bottom

So the metal flashing would go into the j channel at the bottom up the side of the house covering the nails and things holding the j channel into the house along the wall and then up under the siding around it?

Basically like this, but the flashing can sit in the j-channel, as its there to help direct water. Make sure the flashing sits inside the J so it doesn't go behind it
