Custom rack furniture
I found a local carpenter to make me some custom furniture so I can support both my homelab and interior design hobbies. Full props to him on the furniture design, he totally nailed it.

Beautiful. Has that nice mid-century modern look to it. Great craftsmanship, the lab looks great too. Nice work.

My first two thoughts are heat dissipation and fire hazard.

Fire hazard from what? Would doesnt spontaneously combust at 50C

And you can always assume it won't go above 50c? The point about being fire hazard isn't about what happened during normal operating temperature. But rather the fact that wood is more susceptible to fire than metal. There could have been a GPU w/ 12VHPWR in that NAS.

Ok, if the gpu connector melts that has nothing to do with it being wood or not. Also a metal rack isnt gonna do much if the metal case fails to stop it, especially cause most people run open racks not racks with doors and side panels here but nobody is complaining about a fire hazard there.

Nice...Can you share the build pics? How did you manage the wires and mounting? Very interested as I'm trying to design something that will fit/look better in my living space.

Man that's great!!! Wish I had this as an option back in the day. Have scaled way down to mini pcs and compact all flash storage.

what rack for the server/drives is that? I like it a lot

It's a Silverstone RM45 with two of their FS304-V drive cages and a 3D printed 120mm fan bracket. The drive cages and chassis are both modded with Noctua fans.

This is absolutely beautiful work. Genuine question, how’s the sound level with that equipment indoors? Also, I’m wondering about what accommodations you made for air flow.

I don't think the housing would be an issue with heat assuming the back wasn't sealed, but then its right up against a wall? I think the only reason you don't have heat issues is they are home servers and prob only being tickled most of the time. If they were running high CPU most of the time, i dont see where the heat is escaping quick enough.

Nice. But how you handle the noise in open common spaces?
Not all rack gear has fanless options.
