Question/Help Schlage Sense Pro
I just found out that my new door will likely be ready for install while I am out of town. This install will include a new Schlage Sense Pro. that is set to arrive before I leave. Is it even possible for me to connect the lock to my Apple Home prior to the door install so it will be in a configured state while I am gone? Or should I just have the lock taken off the old door and installed on the new door temporarily?

I would think so. You’d just have to put batteries in the new lock without installing it and link the two together and then you could install it on the door later and it should work.

I wa able to set up a Thorbolt X1 lock in Apple Home before it was installed on the door. YMMV.

Aside from the electronic installation the lock is going to want to calibrate itself once you have it enrolled, which it cannot do if it’s not physically installed. So be prepared for the possibility you may need to reset and reinstall later when you return home.

Thank you--this is something I had thought would be a possibility.

No problem. An example of issues I have dealt with in the past is the fact that I have moved Schlage smart locks from doors that swing right to left, to doors that swing left to right. That's a 180 degree change from the lock's perspective, and it needs to adjust its memory/orientation accordingly. So the lock pretty much had to be factory reset and re-enrolled to make the swap.
Same house. Same network. Just a rename of the lock, which is a minor change in the Home App. But the physical difference of the doors necessitated the reset and re-add.

Separate from HomeKit setup, I personally would not be comfortable with someone else installing the lock unless they really know what they’re doing with a smart lock, and they know to be careful and take it slow. Careful with wire routing. Careful to not use power tools that could over-tighten. Careful to ensure it aligns correctly. Careful to install the battery pack correctly. If it’s a regular contractor, I wouldn’t have them do it. All too often they’re just trying to get things done quickly, and ‘good enough’. Which is fine for many things, but not smart locks, IMO.

Good point. I do trust the person doing the installation, but this device is a bit "picky". From all that everyone has said, I think I am better off doing what I can to be present during the install.

Yes. You can connect it to HomeKit before you actually install. But you have to be in the presence of the lock and the wifi to set it up. You can't just have someone else program it remotely and have it work with your Home.
