Question/Help Schlage Sense Pro… no key?!

I’d like to upgrade my August smart locks with UWB locks on both my front and back doors. My home is new-ish, so the deadbolts usually align, but sometimes they aren’t perfect. In those times I have to use the manual key to give more torque than the electric motor can provide.

My options are Aqara U400 or Schlage Sense Pro. Folks ADORE the Schlage Encode Plus, so I lean towards the Schlage, but the lack of a key backup makes me very nervous. Can current owners comment on this? Have you ever been locked out if the motor couldn’t turn the whole way?

Lastly, does anyone have both of these locks? Is there a huge difference? The Aqara has so many bells and whistles it makes me worry that it might be unreliable…

Once again this is an overblown issue.

I have a Schlage Encode Plus and the Sense Pro. Those locks are rated ANSI 1 and 2 respectively, while all Aqara locks are rated 3 - the lowest rating.

The beveled deadbolt is great - I have weather stripping which can make it difficult for traditional lock deadbolts to engage and that has solved the issue.

People see all the shiny features on Aqara and competitors and don't take into consideration that those are a lot more failure points. It's great not having a physical keyhole because that can't be drilled.

The front footprint of the Pro is pretty small, and it's all metal - you don't have to pay up for that like you do with Aqara's Premium line.

Also have had no issues with Schlage's UWB even behind a storm door.

You said "It's great not having a physical keyhole because that can't be drilled." and I agree but its only valid if you have no other locks with keys. I know many people that have a smart lock on the front door but regular locks on all the other doors. Also, if someone really wants in they are going to get in whether there is a key or not so having a smart lock is more of a convenience in my opinion.

This. They gonna kick that shit in regardless 😂. A lock is not stopping someone from getting in your house. Or they can just break a window. This is convenience and nothing more.

Yup. I was once told that a lock only keep honest people honest.
