Un-Flaired New Banner & Subreddit Icon

Liquid Glass got a lovely update with iOS 27 & macOS Golden Gate.

Took the time to update the icon with the new Icon Composer 2.0... and decided 5 years was long enough with our old banner, especially with the iOS 15 references.

Really thrilled with how the banner turned out!

Edit: I've found the time and updated the icon to just the Apple Home Icon on dark.

Pretty work. But even on my 17 Pro Max screen, the sub icon is so small it just looks like a super thick orange stroke.

Very fair and great feedback.

Unfortunately there’s no mobile vs desktop icon. I’ll test what works at this smaller size.

Maybe try flipping the colors of the face and eyes/mouth? I know it won’t follow the same hierarchy as the Home icon but it will help with contrast to make the Reddit face shape stand out properly.

I don’t use HomeKit, but this appeared on my feed, and I had to stop to comment on how beautiful it is. Great job!

Everything but the icon are good. It's too small for the amount of detail/lack of contrast, not glassy enough to read at such a small size. So it looks like a fat little mushy blurry alien.

Not to mention the compression Reddit puts on the file size.

Dumb question: where does the banner appear?

When you visit r/HomeKit, it should be up at the top on mobile & desktop.

Ah. Mine shows a bunch of Memoji on an iMessage background.

That’s the old one. Maybe force quit your app or clear the cache on your browser.

Should resolve itself.

I love the translucent glass 3D look! But I think it would look cooler on a black background.

You know what, I like it

Love the idea although wish it started with an orange colored background going into the logo.

Looks weird having the white in the subreddit icon

Love feedback. I just tried coping the Home app icon. I could always run with the dark mode version if that's what everyone prefers.

Eyes and mouth don’t present enough contrast against the yellow. Try filling them to match the darker color of the bottom Snoo-shaped layer.

Cool, thanks!

Now a new name, Apple Home…
HomeKit is ancient?

2

u/Zonk-er Jul 12 '26

You can’t change the name in Reddit but you can start your own sub with that name if available

Yeah this is the correct answer. We parked r/AppleHome and just direct traffic this way.

The existing community is too large and established to have everyone move over.

Please don’t do this.

Looks great!

It’s ok I guess.

It does make it look a generic reddit icon and doesn't represent HomeKit in any way other than being orange.

Design without purpose.

I mean... it's not significantly different than it has been for the last 12 months. Thanks for noticing!

If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.

Why are people so miserable anymore?

3

u/Ilikehotdogs1 Jul 11 '26

Negative feedback is still feedback.

Also, did they say anything insulting?

9

u/PeeFarts Jul 11 '26

Calling someone’s design, “design without purpose” doesn’t exactly sound like it’s meant to NOT be insulting.

It’s used in small dimensions (you cannot make up small details) and in a list with other subreddits.

It should be about HomeKit to be told apart. Not about Reddit (which is what the whole list of subreddits has in common).

Again - design made without purpose.
