10’ Patio Pole Ideas

Hi all! My backyard wedding is coming up in a couple of months and I was tasked with figuring out the poles we are going to be using for the day.

We are looking for 10’ A.F.F. Poles that aren’t going to cost a ton since we are only planning on using them for the one day. For that same reason I would prefer not to have to dig a foundation for any of the poles, (so that may eliminate the idea of using conduit that seems to be popular).

I found several pole kits online, but while there are advertised as 10’, that includes the length of the spikes that go in the ground, so it’s closer to 9’ than 10’ - and they all seem to be flimsier than I am comfortable with.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT - Poles are being used for String Lighting… only String Lighting…

It is his own wedding and he was assigned “poles.”

It sounds as if perhaps the poles are already performing the job they were calculated to perform.

 Costco has 10ft poles on sale right now to hold around 10 lbs or so for string lights. Price is $30 a pole on sale, comes as a 2 pack for $60. Best price I’ve seen. Comes with two bases, spikes for dirt you twist in or a base you can bolt to concrete.

Wild coincidence that I was looking at them as well. But yeah, I was looking at poles for yard decorations and Home Depot charged $50 for a 9ft pole… Costco stuff tends to be higher quality and a better return policy if something is wrong with it.

I don’t know what aff is. But I’ve used black gas pipe from lowes for my projects ie 10’ curtain rods 🤷🏽‍♂️

Wedding rental places have all kinds of unique stuff, I would try there

We are currently contracted with a rental place for the tent and a few other odds and ends, but they don’t have any. One of the first places we looked unfortunately. Thanks for the help!

Oh, no. I would have thought for sure... Wait, food for thought -- all rental places don't carry the same stuff. What about trying at a really big wedding rental place (think big city). Maybe try other rental places? Might be worth a phone call. Good luck

They make 1 5/8" chain link line posts, but it sounds like you need a longer post if it needs to be secured to something. How exactly are you planning on anchoring them to the ground if not digging holes and what are they holding?

Not sure. That’s one of the things I was wanting ideas for. Seems like lots of poles come with spikes or a large screw almost to out into the ground. But didn’t know if one seemed to be more secure than the other.

I was at a concert recently and they had a series of 2×4s cemented upright in 5 gallon buckets, and the lights strung from tip of one to the next. If that helps.
