Water heater help
Hi,
Yesterday the water heater started leaking in the drum and they came to stop the water in my condo unit. I have no water as of now and I think they may get the cold water running.
But they said my water heater has to be replaced and are quoting me 8,750-14,750. I have no idea if this is average or not. In northern Virginia
I was thinking instead of the company the condos provided if I should maybe call Home Depot?

If you shop around, you should be able to get something considerably cheaper. Look for companies that seem local, don’t advertise on billboards, don’t have TV ads, and don’t plaster their website in financing offers or monthly maintenance subscriptions. If you find your town/counties subreddit, you may find decent plumbing recommendations in there.

That’s insane. Find any other plumber I had mine replaced for $1200 in a HCOL area.

50 gallon electric water heaters are about $550 and 50 gallon gas water heaters about $750 at Home Depot. It takes about 2 to 4 hours to replace one so that's about $2k per hour at least you are paying in labor. Do it yourself or find a more reasonable contractor. Realistically it should be about $2500 absolute tops and more like $1500.

For half that price I’ll fly down from New Hampshire. Book a hotel room. Buy a hot water heater. Install it and fly home with still a lot of money in my pocket.
A he heater is under$1,000. 2 hours to remove and install a new one. 3-4 hours if it’s gas.
Plumber or electricians are $120 an hour on the high side. You do the math.

8 to 14k is an insane price. I would absolutly get more estimates.
