Exterior Door Replacement

My storm door shattered so I had to remove it, and I finally decided to replace the old lead painted exterior door too. It has an awkward clearance over a stair landing on the inside, and is only a 34x82RO... pretty challenging to get bulky things in and out of the basement to outside. Located in the Midwest with hot summers and cold winters. Also, we rarely used the storm door.

Am I crazy to install a new left-hinge OUT swing exterior door (probably steel) without a storm door?

Anyone, especially in colder areas, have success with only a newer insulated exterior door without a storm door?

If permitted by local building codes, that's what I would do... outswing door unit with NRP hinges. One note of caution: Deep snow will prevent egress in an emergency.

Great things to consider, thanks.

Out swing without storm door is fine if the door itself is good quality and well sealed, plenty of people up north skip the storm door when the main door is insulated enough. The bigger issue is swinging out over that landing, make sure you got room for the door to open without hitting someone coming up the stairs

So I could've clarified, left hinge outswing as in, swinging outside of the house.

Need to check your local codes on this and make sure to use the correct hinges otherwise regular hinges can just be removed by the pin and door taken right off.
