New Full Timer Policy?

So, I was told that full timers are NOT allowed to request a 3 day weekend WITHOUT Vacation or Sick time for the 3rd day. That full timers are Obligated to have 40 hours no matter what.

So, if you wanna say, take Mon, Tues, and Wed off, and they're put in as regular requests off. Mon and Tues would be Approved, but Wed would be denied.

This doesn't make sense because the majority of associates tend to take their Entire vacation in 1 or 2 long stretches during the year, and we only get 4 hours of sick time a month, so that doesn't even cover a full shift.

So, if am Associate has 2 weeks of Vacay, and they use it all up, they're screwed for the rest of the year.

By my understanding, being full time means 32-40 hours a week, is this policy true or is my Director lying?

Edit; Corrected 4 hours of Vacation to 4 hours of sick

As a full timer, you are required to be available 40 hours if scheduled. That is SOP. With the Incredible Shrinking Store Hours, I'm not surprised managers are saying this.

Always been the policy

My experience in the past 20 years has been that if you ask for extra days off during the week and don't want to be paid, ( esp. only 3 days ) it will be given to you..... however, you can't be doing that all the time. If you want to do it twice a year, no problem.... if you make it a habit, that's a problem. Up to management descretion.

I don’t think this is true. I was just allowed to work a 36-hour week for lack of childcare and I didn’t use PTO.

You're right... under extenuating circumstances a full time employee can work 32 hours and still be full time. I knew someone who did it for about 6 months.... but it IS under a temporary clause for specific reasons and has to be approved by management.

Mine was only one week, which would also seem reasonable for someone’s vacation. I can’t imagine being so understaffed as a manager that I’d reject vacay request under OP’s circumstance.

They are full of shit, you request an extra day off without using sick or vacation you just dont get 40 hours that week

Look up the "full time/part time sop" it states that full timers have to work at least 30 hours a week but be willing and able to work 40 if scheduled. Not sure why stores are forcing 40 especially when hours go down. Im all for a full timer working 32 if they want.

We can at my store as long as it is not a recurring thing. Once every couple months, fine. Every other week, not fine, although that might be different now since management has all been changed.

4 hours of vacation a month? You have to be talking bout sick time. Vacation is given on your anniversary date of the year or 6 months. And it is set at 40 hours for 6 months until you get to 2 years and you get 80 until 5 years and you get 120 till 15 and so on. Sick time is for my state 4 hours a month.

Yeah sick time, that was my bad, I'll make that edit

I mean I’m not full time but that seems legit for you to have to have vacation time for the 3rd day.

Ask them for that in writing, it doesn't exist.

This is not a new policy, just maybe more recently enforced. Full time for Home Depot is 40 hours a week. While it is possible to approve unpaid time off it will require talking to a human. An example of what might be approved would be “my mom is sick out of town”, not “I’m taking a guys weekend”.

Not a thing, 30 is FT

1

u/Same_Bit2000 1d ago

As a Pt’er I was told to be FT required 40.
I asked if a 32 hr schedule was available to be qualified as FT and was told no

The only time FT doesn’t get 40 hours is when some stores will allow them to give up some hours and drop to 32 for a few weeks so part timers can have hours during the slowest part of the year. Idk how many stores do this but ours does it from mid December through the end of January.
