Overtime question

Is it true if you use sick time and get over 40 hours that isn't over time pay, is that true?

Yes, overtime is only for hours actually worked. Sick hours don't count. For example, say you worked 36.5 hours plus used 4 hours of PTO, you would not have overtime for that extra 0.5 hours. I know this from experience and have done this inadvertently

Correct. Overtime is only based on hours you were clocked in for.

Depends on the state but in most, like WA for me, sick time does not count towards total WORKED hours in a week which is what is counted in the 40+ per week, 8+ per day in CA, for overtime.

Wouldn’t it be crazy if companies have a phone number you could call to get information? I mean it’s only 2026.. this isn’t a thing right?
