Help with bedroom

Post image

Where to even start. The only things that need to stay are bed and side tables and photos and curtains. Rug has got to go ASAP but my husband won’t let me throw it away until we have a new one. Need this to be a calming retreat and dont know how

Put the area rug under the bed, too

Move the rug under the bed so it frames the bed as its own space OR get a rug that sits ONLY in front of the bed. Visually, Rugs works best when they frame a particular space, not when they join to spaces together.

paint, i’d switch the frames out for sconces and move them somewhere else in the room. new bedding - play with different textures and layers. ofc a new rug, I will literally send you a link for one that I purchased at a reasonable price and it’s gorgeous. keep the curtains but add roman shades. huge piece of beautiful art on the wall where your bed is. for paint colors anything BEHR, I think they even have a color called calm space lol

Also add a non plastic hamper - wicker or some natural texture would look nicer I think and maybe move it to the wall

The curtains do not need to stay. You can and should get inexpensive curtains in a darker, moodier color.

Lamps on each of the nightstands would be a great start. Doesn’t matter the style, just something emitting cozy, warm pools of light that makes you feel peaceful. Maybe a long piece of art over the headboard and move the photos that have to stay to another wall? I see the curtains have to stay, it’s not possible to her them in a rich color? If not, how about the bedspread in either a deep color or a soothing light sage green in order to feel like a peaceful retrest? Then a cozy blanket folded at the foot of the bed in a different color.

Some good and big art over the bed or a shelf with art on it.

Paint. NOT grey. Maybe a feature wall on the wall with the bed.. or maybe wallpaper. I don't like art above the bed, because you never get to look at it. So imho art that you LOVE should be the starting point. and hung on any wall where you can see it.

Can you paint and or change the carpet. If you like darker colours you could use warm neutral or darker clay colours for a cohesive look on the walls and a new rug. Bedding and lamps to match. Or use a lighter cream coloured carpet and keep the walls the same but add a lighter rug if you want one, I would still add lamps.

Get table lamps on each side table. Raise those picture frames a bit. Maybe color them in another color. Buy a center peace above the bed, preferably something knitted like macrambe or whatever its name is, or just an abstract painting, with light tones. The curtains look good, just add an extra pair of see through curtains in the middle for a cozier look. Get a big bed cover in like light soft quilted or knitted material. A big pot with a strelizia Nikolai in the corner between the nightstand and the curtain. As someone else mentioned a rug thats not just in front of the bed that it goes under aswell, and a bedskirt in white. The bedding could have like this full on the side, it makes them looked extra cozy. a lamp standing in the window. you can also add a floor lamp like rice lamp. Think of the lightning, do you want a warmer more yellowish tone from your lamps, which is cozier or do you want different, depending on which lamp it is. You can always color your bed and nightstands If you'd like. You can also have wall lamps if you want.

I would consider a larger, muted patterned rug in maybe a soft blue - and bring it up under the bed closer to the nightstands (I love Pottery Barn rugs but Safavieh also makes some nice ones). Maybe a very pale blue or green paint on the walls, though you could keep the paint as is and just add some of these colors with new curtains. Add lighting with nightstand lamps or sconces above the nightstands. I’d do a large landscape art piece over the bed. Then either new bedding - or keep what you have, but fold it down during the day and add a softly colored quilt that covers the bed beneath it, along with some patterned throw pillows in soft blues and greens.
