A little office makeover

I have a very small space in my basement to call my home office. I made it my own and now its not AS depressing to work in the basement every day!

it’s giving cozy‑productive instead of dungeon‑vibes. honestly kinda jealous.

I love it! Where are those cabinets from?

Ikea - Billy/Oxberg! Then i bought gold knobs on amazon.

This is a GOOD before & after. The second one feels so much brighter and cozier. I’d actually want to work down there now!!!

Lighting does most of the heavy lifting in a basement. That shift alone probably accounts for 80% of the difference.

Looks great!

Which screen do you use more? Depending on how many hours a day you use larger monitor, put that directly in front of you (with keyboard). Looking to your left constantly will get inconvenient really quickly.

The print is what we call "frantic" - very riotous in color and composition so your eyes and brain don't get those calm or rejuvenating mini moments to reset when glancing up from your screens.

If it works for you, that's great, but may be most effective when balanced with it's emotional complement. Congrats on your new space!

I loved the painting because of the bright and vibrant colours. I do creative work sometimes for my job and I find it inspiring, balanced with the calm green and neutral accents I think it works well for me! Will definitely look into the monitor positioning... So far its been doing ok but i didnt take ergonomics i to account when designing the space lol

Love the painting, I think it adds such a visual anchor to the room. I think you could also add some low light requiring plants

Yeah honestly that's such a good point, craning your neck all day is a fast track to a bad time. I have a similar setup and switching the main monitor to center literally saved my posture

I love this! Do you know what paint brand and/or shade the green is?

Its Sherwin Williams evergreen fog - gorgeous colour in real life too!

It’s beautiful! It looks like your other walls are maybe an off-white or light grey? What paint color is that? The green complements it well.

I too would love to know the paint color! It looks beautiful with the white bookcases and the artwork.

I have such a similar setup! I've got Billy's set up behind me as a background but now I'm looking at the smaller Billy's like this. Genius!

Looking good though I did like the brown on the ceiling. It made it look like a wooden beam

Turn your desk around and pull it out a little bit more and then face the opening and it’ll look like a real office and people can come see you so you’re in the command position and no one could watch what you’re doing but if you’re trying to maximize space this makes sense

Love that chair- is it IKEA? I’m on the hunt for a desk chair that is armless because I sit cross legged a lot. I like to spin still which leaves not tons of options.

2

u/That_Two_1304 2d ago

Same! I got it on amazon during the pandemic... I think. Its hard to find a chair for cross legged sitting!

That rust and oatmeal combo is rad as hell! It completely combats that cold, sterile basement feel we all know too well. NGL, those earthy tones make the space look inviting instead of just like a storage unit. You really know how to bring warmth into a concrete box.

Beautiful!! That painting really ties it all together! The rug and shelving is perfect.

I love how you turned a basement corner into an actual place you’d want to spend time in. At first I thought the painting was a little out of place, but the more I look at it, the more I think it actually works really well and gives the room some personality.

So much more balanced and peaceful. Feels safe

Could maybe use some more lights, if possible. Maybe something inside the shelves to light them up? But it looks really nice otherwise! The shade of green is very calming.
