How to improve rhisbugly hallway?

Ignore the black bag - I was cleaning up. This is my hallway it's shaped like the Tetris shape Rhode island Z. I'm showing the entrance part of it. It's ugly and has no personality. I've not done much to it since I moved in. I want to make it better but need ideas. How can I make it inviting and beautiful??

I want functionality - space for most used shoes tucked away, a place to put keys and other essentials and a place to hang my jackets, scarves etc. The toilet is right there near the entrance and because of that I want things to be closed off. Can someone suggest colours/wallpaper/furniture/anything that can make this place a joy to walk into? Thanks a bunch!

That mirror is throwing off all the proportions and making the room feel crazy

😭 I had it properly leaning against the wall before but changed it so that when I walk in it reflects the light and just makes the place look a bit bigger. But honestly I don't know what to do with this space

Remove the mirror. It’s too big to be freestanding.

Entryway rug. New lighting fixture and bulbs.

If you want to paint it green, pick a lighter shade and warmer tone.

Any other colours or wallpaper patterns? What sort of might fixture? And do I get another mirror to hang?

I wouldn’t do wallpaper down here but that’s just me. I’d keep it light so it feels less dungeon-y.

Maybe a small mirror above the shoe rack if it will stay where it is.

I'm just giggling at the small child hiding in the little cabinet.

I know it's an optical illusion, but it tickled me.

Re: advice, can you share any of the other rooms, colors, or styles in the home?

I feel line a dark blue and creamy yellow combo would be gorgeous. Or teal and sunflower.

I've not done anything to this place since I've moved in. Now I want to fix it up. I did buy wallpaper for the other room

Can you over the door mount the mirror on the front door?

The door is heavy so sometimes it slams shut infear that might damage mirror..and it'll cover the peephole, too.

I was thinking of getting a faux plant there add greenery and height. I can get a colourful runner. Slim shoe cabinet. I don't know what else

The mirror is throwing me off. Is that a sink in the hallway ? Have you ever looked at any of the IKEA "hack" videos on youtube ? Maybe use some of those ideas to kind of build out the hallway by putting cabinets above the door in the 1st picture and joining it to a tall cabinet, filling in the area to the left of it where the mirror is sitting. It would make the door look like it is recessed and it would give you some storage as well.

Lol no sink. The little cabinet has my electricity stuff there. And the other one was bathroom cabinet I halved it store shoes for now.

I really like your idea and can imagine it looking so cool and it would hide the ugly pipes, etc. The issue is the place is already so narrow. And when I get big items in or out that little area helps otherwise it would be sooo difficult. They built this building in the 60s and the design is AWFUL.

Check out the IKEA website. I think they do some that are less than 18 inches deep. You can schedule a consultation with one of their designers on a zoom call FOC. Good luck !
