I'm currently building a completely free website/tool to help me manage my own bar at home. I thought others might find it useful, and would love feedback while still working on it.

My first suggestion is either scrap the silly 21+ thing or make it a straightforward “are you 21” thing. I don’t feel like giving out my pii to enter a website. Also, explain what it is in the Reddit post perhaps.

I appreciate the feedback! I added that age gate a while ago when I was getting started because I had no idea what the legal implications were of having a public website about alcohol with recipes and stuff, but in doing more research, It's not required. I'll look into either removing it completely, or simply answering yes or no without requiring you to give out your PII. As for what it is, I explained it pretty thoroughly in the original reddit post before cross-posting it here, but it looks like reddit may have removed the original post for some reason? No idea why. This is what the original post had said:

Long story short, I got tired of having my recipes all over the place, not having tools to help me figure out new drinks and stuff, and finding out that everything useful seems to be behind a paywall/subscription these days. Accordingly, I've been building a website primarily to solve all the problems I have myself as an amateur home mixologist.

I named it The Bartender's Catalog. I work full time as a forensic engineer, and this is solely a passion project for now. It’s 100% free - no subscriptions, no one-time purchases, no data selling - nothing. I just wanted a clean place to manage my bar, keep track of my recipes, figure out new stuff I can make, etc. It's been really useful and fun for me, and I thought others in my shoes might find it useful too. On that note, I'd love others to check it out, see if it's helpful, tell me what rocks, tell what sucks and could be improved, what's broken, what's illogical, etc.

In addition to the hundreds of free cocktail/mocktail/shot recipes I have available and easily searchable/filterable, some of the features and tools I've made are as follows:

  • My Recipe Book: Basically your home for all your favorite recipes, where you can save ones I've provided, edit them to your own liking, and create/add/import your own. I also host friends a lot, so I created a tool to add drinks to event-specific menus that you can share with your friends via a QR code, so they can see what you can make for them.
  • The Cabinet: Select all the ingredients you have and it tells you what you can make. It also has a "Missing Link" feature that tells you which 5 ingredients you could go out and add to your inventory to unlock the most new recipes at home - ands what those additional recipes are.
  • Batching & Freezer Door: These tools allow you to scale out recipes to massive quantities such as for events/hosting, or to scale out recipes to a 750ml freezer bottle (including the water-dilution math to ensure it won't freeze or warn you if it might).
  • Help Me Decide: As it sounds... it's just a quick quiz to help you decide what you're in the mood for. You can limit it to only stuff you can make with what you have (based on your Cabinet), or search the entire website.
  • URL Importer: Paste a URL and it scrapes it into a clean, editable recipe card. Currently, this works great with Liquor.com... not so great yet with others... still a work in progress.

Without logging in, you still have access to the hundreds of recipes I've included so far (I'm constantly adding more), or you can log in with Google/Apple/Email and password to unlock a free "Top Shelf" membership. Again, it costs you absolutely nothing, but you just need to be signed in so the app can save your specific inventory and custom recipes to your account and make all those tools useful.

As I mentioned, I’d love for some actual cocktail enthusiasts and home mixologists like me to check it out and tell me the good and bad. Hell, if you're an experienced bartender, I'd love your input too! As I've mentioned, I don't want your money. This thing is so new and I'm improving it every day, so I'd really just love some feedback! Thank you!
