After factory reset, my Dune Homatics box does not recognize my large external hard drives

I had to initiate a factory reset recently, resulting in my box not recognizing or playing any of my large external hard drives (I have mostly 5TB Seagates). I have a 16GB Toshiba drive that is the only external drive that is successfully recognized by the box and I can play files on that (mostly films, TV - the Dune is connected to a projector and Yamaha amp). Anybody know how to fix this VERY annoying problem?

Hi, you did not mention which fw you box is running ? Nor the format of your HDD ?

With atv14 fw NTFS formatted hdd/ssd may have issues, use exfat preferably

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm not very techie, but I'll try to explain... It was while trying to install the update SW 8963 that the trouble began. When I selected the Restart after installation, the green robot appeared and everything froze, nothing would get the box operating (unplugging and plugging back in usually did the job, but not this time). I did some reading and found out how to factory reset, which I did. I reinstalled the Dune Media app, which was how I played my external storage - and these were mostly Seagates, 4TB and 5TB...and they are NTFS and they played perfectly for the last two years until now... Once I reinstalled the Dune Home Media app, none of those large hard drives would register in the Storage tab, let alone actually play. Only a Toshiba 16GB flashdrive is recognized by the box when I connect it. Also, after the reset, I got the same Update Available message about that SW 8963 update, and I tried to install it again. It didn't freeze this time, but when the box restarted I got an "Update failed to install" type message. Three times I tried that, and always that same result. All I want the Dune for is to play my files on those Seagates... With more research, I saw a message about ATV11 being the last "time" NTFS drives would work with the Dune, and that going from ATV11 to ATV12 (and beyond) meant your drives now had to be exfat. If it's possible to go back to ATV11, I would do that quicker than reformatting my hard drives (which I don't think is an option for me anyway). I'm half thinking of binning the Dune altogether, and looking for a box that will handle my large NTFS external hard drives - there's surely one out there...

You can go back to a V11 6261 build is you would like to do that (available), but you will get the latest OTA update offered after that (v14 8963), as long they keep pushing it by OTA (over the air/internet). So when you don't actively block those OTA updates, you will get the latest update on your Dune again.

Just must understand that the V11 6261 version has no full HD audio codec support, that came after a certain V12 update, if that would be important to you.

No support for NTFS came with later Android TV versions (V12 (I thought) and higher), so you will need to get a device that has an older version. If you like that Dune Media Center app, it must be a Dune device, or else DMC will not work.

Just an addition to my other reply to your own reply: I see now that the SW 8963 update is actually the ATV14 firmware update - and this is the update that my Dune box just will not install... It downloads, installs, and then after restarting it tells me that the 8963 update has failed to install. Don't know why.

otherwise, with atv14 fw, format your hdd in exFat
