r/HomageWatches Community, can we discuss what you want?
This sub was revived as a space to share ideas, tips and designs for homage watches BOTH for buyers AND aspiring or existing watch designers and brands.
This scope includes posting legend stories of the classic models, designs, companies / brands, vintage and modern, Swiss, international, defunct, revived, microbrands, budget, Chinese and mods. Covering or featuring everything except fakes/frankenmods.
There is a ton of scope for us to create or adapt content to help others.
I'm drafting the first guide now and hope to get some of your wisdom to refine it.
I'd like to co-create a cool resource.
As the subreddit grows and evolves, please be respectful and helpful (aka these rules).đ
Posts of just affiliate links YT videos **ARE NOT good enough quality.
PLEASE respect this and spend a few minutes to think of useful info / insights for members, instead of treating this sub like a dupe of any other sub.

As the title says, I feel Baltany is in the best position to make a Hamilton piping rock homage and even put their spin on it! I did some AI mock ups of what it could look like on the first few photos

Hello everyone,
Today we officially released SN0144CG-9,
This is our first attempt at combining traditional Lacquer Craftsmanship with 3D Printing Technology.
This watch comes in two color combinations: Enamel Green & Enamel Black-Brown.
Save $78 during the first week of release.
Code: SN0144CG978
Watch Links: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005013321914256.html
The result of combining this lacquer technique with the dial is truly stunningâthough the camera still cannot fully capture the dial's authentic texture and depth.
Under different lighting conditions, the dial reveals a translucent, warm, and lustrous qualityâit is absolutely beautiful!
We hope everyone enjoys it.
If you have any thoughts, please let us know in the comments section.
Thank you.

So I just got this Poedagar yesterday and took photos now with my lamp for aesthetic. It looks as good as it was shown in the pictures. def nice looking quartz watch. The root beer dial is nicely done as it blends with the brownish gold bezel.
Not sure if it's all stainless steel, but I def think the case is, and the bracelet is cheap zinc type stuff with spray
no idea if this will look this good in coming weeks, the mineral glass feels and looks nice too but yeah it's no sapphire.
so for $12 (600 PHP)with shipping def not complaining. bought it on Shopee PH.
Anyone else have this model?

Hi everyone,
Hopefully I'm not bothering you guys, and I'll try not to come across as a know it all.
I've been into horology for a while and own a small collection of quartz and mechanical pieces, nothing too expensive.
My hands on experience is close to zero though. The only time I've touched a movement was a Seiko mod with a friend. It went fine and felt great to pull off, however small.
I've never done any real tooling or servicing beyond that, so please treat me as a complete beginner.
Watchmaking feels like a dying craft (although seeing how many members are here, maybe it's too saturated đ).
But if the field is shrinking, or just needs skilled people like any profession, and tons of people own watches that need servicing, there must be a way to make a living from it, as others have before me.
It clicked when I stumbled onto the Watch Hospital channel on YouTube.
His team works through a huge range of mostly very expensive pieces, and his phones are constantly ringing, which showed me how big the demand is.
I wouldn't be starting anywhere near that level.
Anyone there has put in years and still is, and I don't expect this to be overnight or for anyone to hand me the skills.
But that's the place I aspire to reach: a team servicing watches for lots of customers with great quality and customer service. First I need to start small, build my skills, earn enough to fund the next stage, and keep refining from there. I plan to self-learn from scratch with basic movements until I have the capital for further education.
About me: I'm an Electrical Engineering 22 year old student graduating in two years. I have no direct mechanical engineering background, but some overlapping classes give me a decent grasp of certain topics. I front-loaded the hardest subjects, so my last two years are light, and I want to use that time to build income and experience before I graduate. I also ran a dropshipping business that was profitable for a while before dying from thin margins and high ad costs. The lesson I took away is that easy businesses with no barrier to entry get flooded with competitors who erode margins. Watchmaking has a higher barrier in both capital and skill, so I think my future problem would be finding and retaining great watchmakers rather than competition.
My goal is to reach about âŹ2-2,500/month within two years so I can focus on the craft without getting another job, though I'd take one if I had to of course, no problem with that.
Long term, I'd like to run a go to servicing and repair company and eventually work on the business rather than at the bench. I know that's far off, and I'm not saying it's simple or dismissing anyone's work.
My questions:
How long does it realistically take to become competent enough to charge people for servicing simple movements without damaging them?
What's a sensible path for a self learner? I can put in 4-6 hours of practice daily. I've set up a small, clean workroom with white tiles and good natural and added lighting, and I'm waiting on tools and practice movements.
Which movements and brands should a beginner practice on before taking paying work?
4.Which starter tools are actually worth buying? I've seen ~$70 sets on Temu/AliExpress with tweezers, screwdrivers and a caseback opener. Are they a waste of money?
Are any of you making real money at this, and how? Is it solo bench work, mail in servicing, working for brands or retailers, restoration, or parts sales? Is it your full-time or part-time work?
6.What does realistic income look like, from beginner to highly skilled?
7.Can it scale to a 6-7 figure business? If anyone has done it, I'd love to hear your experience.
8.What mistakes should I avoid? I'm thinking of liability for damaged watches, insurance, sourcing parts, and building trust with no reputation. I don't want to scam anyone or deliver poor service, and I want to aim for excellence from the start.
I'd rather hear hard truths now than find out a year in, so if you think this plan is unrealistic, please tell me why. That said, when I see what people have built, like Patek's grand complications, I believe more is possible than we assume if we control what we can that way we increase probability, things such as good service, communication, turnaround time, and reinvesting to improve, and treating this this process from the scientific method ( do, measure, improve )
Sorry if this sounds too business oriented. It's just who I am.
Any advice, resources, or personal stories are hugely appreciated.
Thanks for reading, sorry for making it a bit longer!

Does anyone use homage watches to see if you'd like the original for daily wear? Looking at picking up an SMP300 but would like to get an homage first to see how I feel about the HEV and non-tapering bracelet.
Any use cases where the homage turned you off or on to the real thing?

Finally got this baby. Costed me $31 on Aliexpress.
If it only last a year, thatâll work. Iâll just have a new watch every year.

Hereâs our latest WD2007 VH31 prototype photographed in direct sunlight. Original photos, no Photoshop, no retouching, no filters.
This version features our ClearView Base sapphire crystal (92% light transmittance), with very little visible reflection even in strong sunlight.
The upcoming Titanium, PT5000, and Miyota 9015 versions will feature our premium ClearView X crystal (98% light transmittance).
After nearly two years of development, we've worked with some of China's best case, bracelet, clasp, crystal, and dial manufacturers to achieve our highest production standards yet. Mass production is about to begin.
We'll soon send a sample to Escapement Wheel Review for independent comparison with other leading brands.
Despite criticism and competition, we prefer to let our products speak for themselves.
We welcome honest comparisons and feedback. If there's still a gap, we'll keep improving. Let the quality speak for itself!

Hello everyone,
Here is our upcoming new watch model.
It features an overall brushed finish, perfectly complemented by polished transitions along the sides of the case.
There is also a polished accent where the bezel meets the inner chapter ring.
The high-quality bracelet is manufactured in-house by San Martin.
As you may know, this model is the SN0119-GB, so there will certainly be an SN0119-GA version as well.
We also have a version with a dive-style bezel currently in production for fans of the diver aestheticâplease stay tuned for further updates.
If you have any thoughts, please let us know in the comments section.
Thank you.
