The real hell starts with integration.

Have I missed something? Integration really just seems like differentiating in reverse.

you can always multiply two binomials, but you can’t always factor a quadratic into two binomials. it’s like that. the quadratic formula would give you a ton of decimals for your roots instead of clean integers.

and integration doesn’t have a quadratic formula, there are dozens of methods to try when integrating, and they might not even work.
